My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Oden has been with his foster for 1 month now, and I can't believe this gorgeous boy hasn't been snatched up yet! After a bit of a sad start - dumped by his family, scared, underweight, and in overall poor condition - Oden has turned it around and is doing great.

He is currently being fostered on a farm with lots of other animals, and he's shown himself to be dog, cat, horse, adult, and kid friendly! He can be a little timid in new situations where he's unsure, but it doesn't take him long to relax and join the party. He loves to play with toys and his doggy friends, go on trail rides with the horses, swim in the creek, and get all the scritches and pets from his people. For a young GSD/Malinois mix, he's a moderate energy level - which means high energy compared to most other breeds. He isn't a stereotypical 'crazy Mal' at all, but he does have exercise needs beyond a walk around the block.

Oden knows basic obedience (including off leash recall), is crate trained, and has a good settle in the house. He was not a fan of car rides initially but is getting more comfortable with them, and he's been a perfect gentleman on outings to dog-friendly venues. He always wants to do the right thing and make his person happy, so he's very easy to train and listens well when corrected.

Oden really is a terrific dog, and if my personal GSD wasn't too much of a princess to play rough and tumble with a Maligator I would probably wind up keeping him. Approved adopters are welcome to contact his foster at tgillisp1@gmail.com with questions or to schedule a meet-n-greet.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

An applicant first submits an application form with a non-refundable $10.00 (cash or check only) processing fee. VGSR reviews the application, then schedules an interview and home visit during which a number of questions are asked and the home is reviewed to be sure there is a contained/safe yard, and to meet the family involved. Once the application is approved, the applicant is asked to submit a $250.00 (cash or check ONLY) minimum adoption donation to VGSR to help defray the costs of getting the dog fully vetted and ready to be adopted, and the adoption is completed.

More about this rescue

We provide a valuable service by finding good homes for the German Shepherd Dogs in our care. In the seven plus years that we have been in existence, we have found homes for over 2,400 deserving dogs. We are currently enlisting active volunteers to help with the task of placing some really wonderful, but homeless, German Shepherd Dogs. Our goal is to place all GSDs that are accepted into our Rescue in loving homes in which the GSD and the family will thrive together.
