While Florian may not be the most charming cat on the block, he has a heart of gold when it comes to his fellow felines and his love of snacks! This 9 month old domestic shorthair male finds solace in the quiet company of other cats and would thrive in a home where he can have some furry companions to share the space with. And here's an interesting tidbit – Florian wouldn't mind a rural lifestyle. The wide-open spaces of a farm would be right up his alley, where he can explore to his heart's content and indulge his natural curiosity at his own pace!
Now, here's the thing about Florian – he's not looking for a bustling household with constant human interaction. Nope, he's much happier keeping a safe distance from the two-legged creatures and snuggling up in a cozy corner all on his own.
Meet and greet/adoption appointments are highly recommended to ensure the animal you are interested in is currently at the shelter. Please call or e-mail the shelter to set up an appointment to meet and adopt!
Our kitten/cat adoption fees vary on age, special needs, lonely heart status (cats that have been with us 6+ months), and for our senior to seniors program. Our adoption fees include the following: all of our cats/kittens are current on vaccinations (FVRCP series and Rabies if over 3 months of age) at the point of adoption, dewormed, tested for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), treated for fleas/ticks/earmites in addition to being spayed or neutered once the cat reaches 2 lbs in weight. All cats and kittens adopted from the shelter are microchipped. Adoption fees may vary in special circumstances.
Because we are on a busy street, we require that all cats leaving the shelter be in a carrier. All pets are up for adoption until an approved application is processed and their adoption fee is paid.

BRHS formed in 1998 to help the Brookings Animal Control Department find homes for stray animals.The unclaimed, homeless cats and dogs from Animal Control are BRHS' priority. Those unclaimed are transferred to BRHS where they get the necessary wellness care and are spayed/neutered. Animal Control brings any sick or injured animals to BRHS for immediate care.
In 2013 BRHS was very fortunate to move into its present location across from the Brookings Airport. The building was built specifically to house animals and provides a separate dog kennel area, rooms to house cats, natural lighting, and proper ventilation throughout the whole facility. There are also medical isolation, quarantine, treatment, and surgery rooms.
BRHS has been recognized for and has won multiple awards from both city and national organizations, including several Dog Rescue Awards and a nomination for the Governor’s Award.
