My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME NEEDED:
Meet Leilani, a sweet and cuddly, 1 year old, 30 lb, border collie mix who's ready to steal your heart! Leilani is completely deaf, but don't let that fool you - she is incredibly perceptive and is just like any other dog, only better - no worry over fireworks or loud noises for this little one! She does rely on her humans to guide her through the world and with a little patience and understanding, she'll form an unbreakable bond with her forever family.

Training Leilani is a breeze, especially when treats are involved! Her intelligence knows no bounds, and she thrives on mental stimulation and positive reinforcement. She's mastered hand signals for basic commands like sit, lay down, come, and good girl, and she's always eager to learn more. With consistent training and positive reinforcement, she'll become an obedient and well-behaved member of the family.

Leilani's ideal home would be one where she can get plenty of attention, with plenty of space to run and would do well as an only dog/animal of the household with continued walks and socialization with other pups. Leilani really loves to play – solo, with you, another dog, doesn’t matter! So long as she has been given the time and space to build trust, so she knows she’s safe, she’ll have fun. With proper introductions and guidance, she'll make a loyal and loving companion. However, due to her fear of cats, primarily stemming from her inability to hear, it's best to avoid having cats in the home. Cats' curiosity and unexpected movements do startle her, leading to discomfort and anxiety.

When nervous, Leilani may jump up, lick, or retreat to a toy. She particularly enjoys chasing after a rolling ball and likes playing catch with herself.

Leilani does have some leash reactivity and tends to instinctively chase small animals as well as react to other dogs, so a secure yard and patient guidance are a must. With proper socialization and training, she'll learn to navigate the world with confidence and grace.

If you're looking for a devoted and chill love bug to join you on life's adventures, look no further than Leilani. With her boundless love and unwavering loyalty, she's sure to bring joy and excitement to your home every day. Come meet Leilani today and discover the love of a lifetime!

Leilani is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and spayed. Her adoption fee is $500.

More about this rescue

Forever Home Dog Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We receive dogs from owner surrenders and overcrowded shelters. All of the dogs are housed in private, loving foster homes or a kennel in the greater Seattle area. We assess their behaviors and health and help them relax during their transition to a forever home. The dogs remain in foster care or in our kenneling facility until they are adopted. All of the dogs are/or will be spayed or neutered, microchipped and are current on routine vaccinations.

Forever home dog rescue is not a shelter and thus you cannot see the dogs without an appointment.

We need foster homes! Thinking about adopting a dog, but not sure yet about which breed or if you're ready for the long-term commitment? Consider becoming a foster parent. A foster dog placement can be anywhere from two weeks to several months. We provide any dog supplies you may need and cover all necessary medical costs for your foster dog. You provide the love and attention and bring the dogs to adoption events at least twice per month.

Interested? Send us an email at fhdrwa@gmail.com and we'll send you a foster application. It's lots of fun and you will meet lots of dogs and other people who love dogs.
