Dog's Name:   Miss Freckles  (MIS0424OWSFS)
Estimated Breed:   Pointer / English Setter MIX
Approximate Age:   1-2 years
Approximate Weight:   36 lbs
Currently Living at:   Foster
Adoption Fee:   $400

DOG'S DESCRIPTION:  Miss Freckles is a loving and energetic dog who is in search of a home where she'll be shown an abundance of love, attention, and stimulation. She loves to play outside, and if she could, she would be outside all day long. She is not one to play fetch, but she enjoys running around outside and chasing birds. Miss Freckles does really well on walks and loves them. She is used to being walked on a harness, but will also probably do well on a collar. She is great with routine, tends to learn pretty quickly, and she is treat/food motivated. She enjoys chewing on bones and toys along with cuddling and giving lots of kisses. She has crate anxiety and she might have some separation anxiety as well after 5-6 or so hours of being left alone. She does not like loud, busy streets and does not like cars or going near cars. She tends to get car sick, but she will get used to a car pretty quickly if she is loaded in and out for short drives. She would be a good fit for an active family that is home most of the time. Miss Freckles would thrive somewhere with less traffic and a big yard for her to explore. If her new home has another dog or dogs, she would be fine with them and will most likely want to play. Submit an application today and give Miss Freckles a chance to have the forever home that she deserves!

Freckles is not destructive at all and just sleeps on the couch at night. I have cameras all over my house so I can watch her at night or when I'm out. She doesn't appear to have separation anxiety or anything like that. Her favorites include laying in the grass, playing with a ball, zooming, destroying fluffy toys (she doesn't swallow any of the fluff) and snuggling on the couch. She has been around men and women without any problem. She has seen my cat several times and doesn't seem to care. We haven't been around kids yet, but I have no doubt she would be fine.

Freckles is going to love her person, whoever adopts her, and will be very loyal to that person. She has no interest in leaving my side! The biggest issue she seems to have right now is getting frightened while on walks. Things like big buses, loud cars, or sudden movements seem to jar her a bit. Though she recovers quickly a busy city would probably not be a good fit for her.  She seems interested in other dogs and is very playful. She's learning to walk on a leash. She's not great, but she's also not bad at all. All in all, she's a lovely dog!"

Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.

Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet.

Additional adoption info

The adoption process is almost always completed within one week of time you submitted your questionnaire (times can vary depending on your location, the dog’s location, and availability). Please, note that we do receive large number of applications for certain litters, and as much as we would like to, we can't always get back to everyone. We appreciate your understanding as all volunteer run organization.

Fill out an adoption questionnaire, found at https://k-9lifesavers.org/howtoadopt (please note, completion of the Adoption Questionnaire does not guarantee adoption- it is the first step in our adoption process).

· An adoption counselor will call you to review your application.

· The adoption counselor will call your reference, landlord/condo association, and veterinarian (if applicable).

· The entire household should be willing and present for a home visit.

· The adoption counselor will schedule a time for you, your family, and any other pets to meet the dog(s) you've applied for.

Once approved, you will need to finalize your adoption by completing an adoption contract and paying the adoption fee in cash or check. At that time, available medical records will be provided along with a variety of other information.

More about this rescue

K-9 Lifesavers is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 non-profit organization that rescues homeless and abandoned dogs. We save canines that are scheduled for euthanasia from high kill shelters, where there are typically held only for 3-7 days. K-9 Lifesavers also strives to educate the importance of responsible dog ownership, including spay/neuter, training, and pet nutrition.

K-9 Lifesavers relies primarily upon our dedicated foster families since we do not operate a shelter. These homes provide loving, temporary care until our rescues find their forever homes. We are always looking for foster families.

Please visit our website at www.k-9lifesavers.org for additional information about K-9 Lifesavers. The website lists our available dogs, volunteer opportunities, foster information, and various ways to donate.

Please help us rescue more canines waiting for their second chance at life with a forever home! Adopt a rescue, foster, volunteer, or donate!
