My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cricket is being fostered in Poynette WI

Drum roll please!!!!!  Introducing Cricket.  This GORGEOUS HUNK is Cricket is a 51lb standard blue merle Australian Shepherd.  His date of birth is 9/5/22.  Cricket is a sweet young boy who just wants to be close to his people.  He enjoys playing with tug toys and tearing up stuffies.  He’s also a fan of playing “come get your shoe!” when he wants to stir things up.

While he’d much rather be hanging out with you, Cricket doesn’t mind his kennel and, after a few barks to see if you REALLY want to go to bed, he will settle in and sleep quietly for the night.  He stays his crate with no accidents while his foster mom is at work and waits patiently to be let out upon her return. Cricket is great on leash and likes car rides. He might give a little whine or bark if he sees a fellow 4 legged friend through the window though.

Cricket has been just fine with the cats in his foster home. He was said to chase the outdoor cats at his previous home.  We think he would do well with some dog-saavy indoor cats as he does now.  He has been great with every person he meets from young children to grandpas so long as they give him some scratches and pets! He is very affectionate.

Like all of us, Cricket has some things to work on.  He is anxious about meeting new dogs and will get VERY loud to demonstrate that fear, which can be a bit much for the other dog.  We have been working hard on redirecting that response so that he can ease into a meeting without so much drama and he has made great improvements.  Once he trusts a canine friend, Cricket is a great playmate, wrestling and sharing toys without any resource guarding.  With a slow and careful introduction, Cricket would do well with another dog in the home.  His foster mom will coach the right home on how she did this with him when he first came into rescue in January.  Cricket doesn't have to have another pup in the home as long as someone is willing to give him the daily exercise he needs.

Cricket is a young Aussie and he will need daily mental and physical stimulation.  If you cannot provide at least 2 hours a day, please do not consider an Aussie.  Aussies need continued attention, love and training throughout their lives.

Cricket is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, negative for all tick borne diseases and on monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworm.  Does Cricket sound like your guy? If yes, please complete an adoption application by clicking HERE.

Additional adoption info

Meeting any dog within MASR requires an approved adoption application on file. We process as quickly as possible via volunteers. Then connect an applicant one at a time with a dog and foster home to arrange a meet and greet. If all parties at the meet and greet, including the dog, are in agreement that it is a good fit, the dog goes home that day.
