Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Alicia von Keyes is an adorable, 3-year-old, smaller-sized shepherd mix. We’re honestly not sure we even need to write about all of Alicia’s amazing qualities because all you need to do is look at that sweet face! Alicia is so stinkin’ cute with that face…and those ears! If that's not enough, she is also super-sweet, loves to get all kinds of attention (as long as it includes ear scratches) and is quite well behaved. She’s more of a middle energy girl who knows how to walk on a leash, takes treats gently and knows a few obedience commands. Alicia enjoys meeting new people on her walks. She is sociable with easygoing dogs, preferring to avoid higher energy or pushy ones. She has done well meeting a small dog but says no to kitty friends. Sweet Alicia will make your heart sing!

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
