My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Arlo Jenkins
It's a pleasure to meet you. After having lived with my owner for ten years, I was surrendered to the HSHC in March. Because I was such an exemplary fellow, I moved over to the Smitten Kitten Cat Cafe in late April. I am a 10-year-old, all-black cat who was declawed when I was six months old. But enough of my details. I want to tell you about my passion and career choice: Ornithology, the study of birds. The SKCC has a huge front window with ground-level bird feeders, making it an ideal spot for me to spot and record all the birds I see. I'm an outgoing cat, so when the interviewer lady (IL) came to speak with me, we shared some friendly petting and purring, and she witnessed me practicing my skills. I am not a slender guy, but my stealthy approach to the window was graceful. Once positioned for optimum viewing, my tail went into overdrive, whipping back and forth enthusiastically. It was a banner day for purple finches and sparrows! I am also a fairly energetic boy, enjoying playing with toys and running around the room. You might not guess my age when watching me pursue my hobbies. I have a glossy, irresistibly soft coat you will want to pet! I would love to meet you and see if you, too, are a birder! 5-7-24

More about this shelter

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.

This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
