My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Calling all laps!  This request comes straight from Iris, a sweet Pekingese/Shih Tzu blend who is about 2 years old and weighs 14 pounds.

  • General Behavior: Iris has been described by her foster as laid back, chill and a TOTAL LAPDOG.  She can be shy in new situations so it may take her time to become totally comfortable.

  • Likes & Dislikes: If you have a comfortable lap, Iris will be your new best friend.  As mentioned, she is a total lapdog and will be quite content relaxing with you throughout the day.  She doesn’t seem to be big on toys, but that could always change. Iris does not like being confined to a crate.

  • Training: Iris is great with housetraining when let out on a regular schedule.  She has good basic manners.  While she doesn’t pull on a leash, she is not leash trained and will need to work on mastering that skill.

  • Medical: Iris is healthy and will only require her monthly heartworm and flea preventative.

  • Other Animals: Iris has done well with dogs of various sizes and should be ok with cats (she ignored the cat in her foster home).

  • Children: Iris has not been around young children so a home with respectable children over the age of 13 would be best for her.

  • Home:  Iris would be best suited in a single-family home with a securely fenced yard.  She will look for gaps in the fence, so a secure fence is important for her safety.  The fenced yard will also be a great place for her to play and work on her leash skills. Iris thinks she would be living her best life in a home where her new human companion is home more often than not.  When she does need to be left alone, she has done fine being in a secure area of the home.  After a day of lounging on your lap, Iris would love to continue getting her beauty rest in the “human bed” with her person.

  • Grooming: As a Pekingese/Shih Tzu blend, Iris will need regular brushing as well as professional grooming approximately every 6-8 weeks.  You should budget $65+ for her grooming.

  • Overall: It has been said “Where flowers bloom, so does hope”.  With patience and understanding, we know that Iris will bloom into a loyal and loving friend in her forever home.

We are a foster-based rescue organization and do not have a facility. We have all events posted on our website each month.

More about this rescue

Poodle and Pooch Rescue is a 501(c)3 non profit organization that saves dogs that truly need help. We rescue the "leftovers" from animal control, the dogs nobody wants because they're older or suffer from neglect, abuse or have a medical need. Their "last" day becomes the first day of their new life. We provide the veterinary care they need, a foster family they love and when they're ready, we adopt them to a family who cherishes them. We do not have a physical shelter because every dog lives with one of our foster families. We are all volunteers so your tax-deductible donation goes directly to help the dogs. We have saved over 5,500 dogs since 2008.
