My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Sully is a sweet gentle soul. He does well with other dogs and doesnt seem to be interested or bothered by livestock and chickens. He walks great on leash and wants to be on left side making us think someone took the time to teach this sweet boy manners. Sully has not soiled his kennel at all, knows that when he goes out her needs to do his business. Everyone that meets this guy falls in love.

Please visit our website for more pictures of this dog and info on our adoption process and application which is located on the left column under "forms & applications" :

                         https://barkdogfarm.rescuegroups.org

Before applying be sure you have thoroughly researched Great Pyrenees.  They can be stubborn, prone to barking, overly protective and cannot be off leash.  You WILL NOT train a pyr to boundaries.

Please be sure all family members are in agreement to adopting and your family is ready to bring dog home now.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old. We do not have blanket criteria regarding adoptions. Each applicant is considered based on many things including but not limited to breed experience, yard ( visible fence preferred) and other animals in home. We try to avoid dogs with same sex households as pyrs typically do not do well with the same sex.

A volunteer will be in touch to discuss your application and the dog to determine if it is a good match. Your vet and two references will be called.  A virtual home visit done. Once approved a meet and greet at the farm will take place.  If all are in agreement and the animal has received its NH health certificate an adoption contract will be signed and adoption fee paid.  Adoption fees for dogs are $450. for adults over 12 months, $550 for puppies 12 months and younger.  Fees for seniors, special needs or harder to place dogs will be determined by our Board of Directors. All dogs will be altered when adoption is finalized. This may involve young puppies be given until a certain age to be altered. All animals are up to date on age appropriate core vaccines, negative for parasites, heart worm and lyme tested if 6 months or older, microchipped and have a current health certificate.  Proof of a basic obedience course completed is part of our adoption contract within six months.

Our descriptions are based on shelter evaluations, input from foster homes and interactions with our volunteers but are in no way a guarantee of temperment.

We show animals by appointment only. This is usually done meet outdoors so please dress accordingly.

Please email barkingdogfrm@gmail.com with any questions or to arrange a meet and greet.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process consists of filling out an application, a phone interview, calling your vet and/or personal references, conducting a virtual home visit.
We do require a fenced in yard or for the dog to be leash walked only. We prefer homes that do not have very small children. Large dog experience is also required. We do have a written adoption contract and our adoption fees range from $450to $500 which include transport, spay/neuter for pups over 5 months, age appropriate vaccines, negative heart worm test on dogs 6 months or older, FIV/FeLK negative in cats as well as health certificate. All animals are microchipped.

More about this rescue

We are a small group of volunteers dedicated to saving Great Pyrenees and other cats & dogs from kill shelters in the south where pet over population is a serious problem due to lack of spay and neuter. We have and will help local animals in need as well.

Our animals are quarantined & vetted before coming north. We foster our dogs in our homes NOT a facility so we can get to know them and help them acclimate to living indoors as well as teach manners as many were ignored outdoor dogs.
