My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We are having a big adoption event this Saturday, April 27th with 50% off adoptions and will be closed this Friday, April 26th to get the shelter ready. Online applications will not be considered during this weekend event (April 27th and 28th). Priority will be given to people coming in during visiting hours.

Meet Beanu and Jelly! These cute little curious critters came into our care after their owner was no longer able to provide for them. Beanu and Jelly are bonded buddies and are to be adopted together. They enjoy exploring their habitat and creating an intricate series of underground tunnels using their bedding, cardboard and hidey holes. They require a large glass terrarium - unfortunately wire cages are not suitable for these animals. We are currently housing these gerbils in an aquarium 48" long, 18" high and 13" deep. This is the minimum size requirement for two gerbils. Beanu and Jelly are highly intelligent and it is a great joy to watch them do their thing :) Come meet these cuties today!

Please come into the shelter during visiting hours if you would like to meet us. While we do welcome online applications, in person meets have top priority.

Our visiting hours are:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 12-4:30
Thursday, Public Holidays: closed
Saturday, Sunday: 12-4

More about this shelter

Our Mission:

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its 36 branches located around BC and its provincial office in Vancouver, the BC SPCA provides a wide range of services for more than 53,000 homeless, abused, and abandoned animals around the province. The BC SPCA was created under the auspices of the provincial Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and is the only animal welfare organization in BC which has the authority to enforce laws relating to animal cruelty and to prepare cases for Crown Counsel for the prosecution of individuals who inflict suffering on animals.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
