My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pistol is a little spunky thing!  She came to us with her brother Pepper when they were only about 4 weeks old, and she is the leader of the pair. At first, she would hiss and lunge at us, out of fear. They were found on the side of the highway and were not weaned yet, so we taught them how to drink milk and wet food from a bowl. They recently graduated to solid food and  Miss Pistol is thriving and doing very well... eating well and using the litter box without any issues.  She is very playful and active and even lets us hold and pet her now without hissing anymore.  She will be ready for adoption once she is spayed, but she can go into an approved home now and the adoption will be complete once she is spayed (adoption pending status). If you are interested, please call our shelter at 870-269-5200 or go to our website at schspets.org and complete and adoption application and someone will contact you for a meet and greet.

More about this shelter

The Stone County Humane Society is a 501(C)(3) private organization, not a government entity that was formed in 1999. We rescue dogs and cats and are a no-kill shelter but we are not an open take in facility. We are currently operating from our new shelter building recently completed in August 2016 and a cat cottage. Our organization is managed by a volunteer board of 10 individuals and a full-time paid employee shelter manager that handles the day to day operations, and three part-time paid employees that feed and care for the animals and keep the facility clean. Most of our daily operations are funded by proceeds from a Second Chance Shop in town and donations from individuals. We also provide low cost spay/neuter clinics to the people of our county with help from a local vet.
