My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Winter, an independent and super handsome shepherd mix stuck at the shelter. Winter found himself here when his owner starting experiencing housing issues. His owner had many great things to say, including that he's crate trained, knows sit, and is a "very happy dog, loves to play and run around, loves running after toys and loves spinning in circles". Such a silly boy!

Winter is now looking for his new forever. He's an active boy looking for an owner who can give him the exercise and stimulation he deserves. Winter is available for adoption at ACCT Philly. You can meet him any day from 10am-6pm!

Behavior:
Per Volunteer 4/18/24: Super patient for leashing! Easy to walk and direct. Not very handler focused today- he was most focused on sniffing around the play yard! Did slow laps most of the time. Didn't show much interest in treats. Was interested in toys at first but never followed through after chasing them at first. Chill boy! Did need some help getting him back into the kennel but he went in pretty easily when a staff member looped his belly and helped to guide him.

Per Staff 4/17/24: Winter was very stressed and high strung in the room. He would whine and scream and spin in circles frequently. That being said though he was very friendly towards me and allowed all over handling without any issues. He would lean in while petting him and even flopped over for belly rubs. Showed knowledge of Sit, Down, and Paw but would not take treats at this time., Did well meeting two other handlers.

Per Staff 4/16/24: Took Winter outside for a bit. She was very stressed but allowed all handling from me. She was panting and pacing outside. I tried a quick dog meet with a husky outside and Winter remained very stressed and had mixed reactions, sometimes appearing fine and other times would do a small charge and hard bark. When returning to kennel Winter began to thrash and pull backwards outside. Another handler tried to hold her belly with her hands and Winter swung around and snapped at her. She then looped her belly with a leash and we were able to get Winter back to kennel that way but Winter continued to scream and pull backwards.

Medical:

During an exam on 4/16, staff found Winter in good general health, and "friendly, very high energy."
