Looking for a young retriever mix that is super docile and just wants to play? I would love to meet you and become part of your family. My name is Weslyn Laya, and I’m 44 pounds of sweetness. I spent the last 8 months in a shelter, and love other dogs and even cats. There is a cat in my current foster home who isn’t that nice, so I leave him alone, and do what I can to avoid a swat on the nose from his cat claws.
When you first meet me, I may be a bit nervous, but I warm up quickly. I love to go on walks, and also enjoy having the freedom to run in a back yard. There are two dogs next door and we run back and forth on opposite sides of the fence for fun, and it definitely helps me get out excess energy.
I know basic commands like sit, down, touch and know that “bed” means it is time for me to go into my crate and sleep for the night. I am mostly house and crate trained, but it sure is different being in a home and not a shelter.
My ideal home would have other pets and at least one person who is around most of the day. I go into my crate and don’t complain, but I would not want to spend hours in there outside of bedtime. I have no interest in escaping, as I am just happy to have a family to take care of me. I do get excited, and sometimes nervous, but I don’t resource guard, and take treats gently (no snatching or snarling). If I see people walking down the street, I’ll bark to let them know that I see them, but a few barks is usually enough.
I’d love a family, though very small children may get bumped accidentally, so school aged children are probably a better fit. If you have other pets, I’d love to make new friends, whether they are small or big, and more than happy to let them be in charge. Please consider meeting me and making me a part of your family!
