Hi, I'm Bernice and I'm so happy to meet you! You probably will notice my piercing blue eyes at first, but the real deal is my wiggle butt. It wiggles all the time. My personality is affectionate and playful. My energy level is medium - high while I play with my human and dog friends, After I'm done playing or walking, I usually look out the window, lay down for a nap, or just chill. I love everybody! Speaking of love, I will likely lick you when I meet you. My foster dad is happy I am house trained. I walk great around the neighborhood with my foster dad and his dog. My new home can have other dogs, cats, and kids. My foster dad is working on my jumping up on people so I am not sure if i would be the best around toddlers that I could probably knock over...all in fun of course! 1.
Submit Application

Review our adoption process and complete our new online pet application. If you need assistance, call us or visit our Adoption Center!

2.
Approve Application

If you have had pets in the past 10 years, we will do a vet check and we will check with your landlord or HOA that you can have the pet.

3.
Meet the Pet

Once approved, everyone in your home will need to meet the pet. Also, any existing dog will need to meet a dog you want to adopt.

4.
Sign Adoption Contract

We will ask you to sign an adoption contract and pay our adoption fee - a schedule of fees is on our website.

We have one Adoption Center at 1901 W. Ogden Ave., Downers Grove, IL. Please come in to complete our pet application or fill it out online and we will contact you to schedule an appointment to meet our awesome dogs and cats!

The West Suburban Humane Society (WSHS) is a volunteer-based, no-kill animal rescue that was founded in 1972 in the western suburbs of Chicago. WSHS now finds homes for more than 500 dogs and cats each year!

WSHS is 100% funded by individual, corporate, and private foundations donations, and has over 450 active volunteers! WSHS is caring for about 200 animals at any given time.
