Big Tony entered San Bernardino City Shelter in rough shape with overgrown, curling toenails and laboring to get around due his size and painful knees. After his stray hold ended, he was scheduled to be euthanized, but thankfully, we were able to make him a Frosted Face just in time on April 17th.
Big Tony is only 6 years old, and under the care of our veterinary team, with a treatment plan involving weight loss and appropriate pain medication, he will soon be much more comfortable and mobile. He is such a sweet, gentle boy, and we can't wait to see what the future holds for him!
Big Tony went on a two-week Frosted Fling to enjoy some well-deserved TLC in the comforts of a home, while we got to learn more about him! His Fling Mom reports:
"Big Tony is the absolute sweetest love bug on earth and captured the heart of every person he met. He loved giving kisses and cuddles, and if you sat down next to him on the floor, he would sit and lean his whole body into you for pets. He really enjoyed laying in the bed with us and getting pets and kisses and snuggles, and then rolled on his back and slept with his feet straight in the air. At first, when getting him up on the couch or sitting down on the floor with him, he was so excited for pets and kisses that he would almost hyperventilate. He was so happy!
Each day, Tony got a little bit more energy and went outside more often, enjoyed sunbathing, and would wander the yard slowly but surely. He also walked the length of the house several times a day, and by day eight, he was walking through the house at least four times a day and outside. He was awake a little bit more, and when given bones, he would stay awake for hours chewing the bone before napping again.
I think with each day and each pound this boy loses, he will become more and more active. I think he is going to make a spectacular, amazing, wonderful dog for any family, who wants a loving loyal companion. Big Tony is a lover of companionship, hugs and kisses and yet he is very independent and grateful for a dog bed to curl up in and nap. He will entertain himself for hours, chewing on a bone and will lay and lightly snore while you work and not bother you one bit until you're ready to give him some attention, and he will be super happy."
Big Tony is back on-site and ready for his forever home! He is a "lobbyist", our term for the special group of Frosted Faces that get along really well with other dogs, enjoy greeting everyone who visits our facility, and benefit from a little extra TLC.
Come meet this hunk of love at Open House this Thursday 5-8 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 1 pm!
