Barney - Yellow Male, dob 3-24-21, 95 lbs.

Hi there new friends! My name is Barney – big Barney actually and I am so excited to meet you! I am on the hunt for my forever family – could it be with you? I have not always had the easiest life. I used to live with a family…well not exactly a family…some people bought me as a cute puppy, but after a short time and because I was acting like a puppy, I was relegated to their backyard kennel alone. Day and night. Being a “papered” dog didn’t do me a lot of good. You know what the term “sold down the river” means? Yeah, that’s me and it ended when I was taken in by the defenders of dogs, the Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno!

Up until recently, I had not walked on leash, which I am learning takes me to places I want to go and sniff the world. At my foster home I have been treated with kindness I had not received before, good food and a soft, clean place to sleep. Wow- talk about a lifestyle change!!! I am in Labrador heaven! Seriously, I can’t stop smiling - can life get any better?? My foster parents say, yes it can! They are helping me find a forever family where I will be a beloved family member – not just a lawn ornament, lonely and forgotten.

Despite my rough past, I have nothing but love for people. I literally melt into you when you pet me – I especially love belly rubs. I have a lot of missed affection to make up for! I am learning about that round thing called a ball and doggie toys, and treats are so amazing. It is so great to be with people – I just cannot get enough of it!

Barney is an incredibly resilient Labrador who is full of love and is ready to devote himself to his forever family. His loving spirit shines through constantly and warms your heart. This sweet boy has come such a long way and gets more comfortable and confident every day. Barney has been under socialized because his “family” chose to ignore him most of his short life so he has a lot to make up for. He needs continued socialization and a dog savvy family who will continue his training. Because he was bored while stuck in a cage, all he could do to pass the time was, well, eat. With no exercise he became too heavy, so he is on a doggie diet until he’s at a healthy weight. He does not like to share his food with other dogs, so if there is another in the home, they should be fed separately. He is great with people but because of his size, older children who are dog savvy is best. We do not know about cats or small dogs. This loving Labrador is happiest when he is cuddled up next to you. Do you have room in your heart and home to make Barney a member of your family? Apply to meet Barney today at www.labrescuefresno.org.
