My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Raya, a beautiful, 6 month old, Australian Shepherd/ German Shepherd mix with 1 blue eye.

Raya is your typical puppy,.... energetic, clumsy, uses her mouth and huge paws to explore her world. She is 38 lbs plus and utd on shots. She has an outtie belly button that was probably an umbilical hernia at birth, but our vet says the abdominal wall has sealed over, and no intervention is necessary, but if wanted , can be repaired during spay.

Raya is working hard on basic commands,.... sit, down, off, shake, and kennel. Raya is mostly housebroken, but when playing sometimes waits too long and still has occasional accidents. A consistent routine and watchful eye will help her through this. She is very clean in her crate and will stay in it all night without a peep.

Raya loves to romp and chase her foster siblings, and loves chew toys! The more the better! She is easily corrected if she finds something that she shouldn't have, but loves to bring sticks and stones inside to shred. She is an expert at using the doggy door to go in and out to the fenced area.

Raya has not been tested with cats.

Raya is a bit mouthy and uses her feet to let you know she wants your attention like any typical puppy. She is probably a bit much for small children due to her not realizing her size.

Raya is great with our family but is suspicious of strangers and will retreat if approached. Once she warms up to you, it is play all day! Cuddles happen, but she is a rambunctious pup with better things to do until she is tired.

We have gotten better with the brush and nails have been trimmed a few times, but puppy energy sometimes gets in the way.

Raya is super smart and picks things up very quickly! Anyone wanting a partner for obedience, or agility, or some kind of doggy sport, this girl would excel at anything you want to teach her!

We are working on scheduling her spay, but if she is adopted before that, a deposit will be required which will be refunded with proof of spay. A small fee is also included for her microchip. Raya is being fostered in Rising Sun, MD.

If Miss Raya sounds like the pup for you, please apply at Australian Shepherds Furever 501c3!

Here is the app:https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application

There is a $50 REFUNDABLE spay deposit that will be refunded upon proof of spay and a $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to her new family. All adoption fees are used for future rescue efforts.

More about this rescue

Nancy Pearlman-Gonzalez, Founder and CEO, created Australian Shepherds Furever (ASF), a non-profit organization to promote the education, rescue, fostering and adoption of the Australian Shepherd breed of dog.
In July 2012, Australian Shepherds Furever (ASF) initiated as a page on Facebook. Hoping to have 1,000 members at the end one year, ASF quickly grew into a network of more than 67,000 dedicated individuals striving to provide aid and refuge to Aussies all over the country.
From these phenomena, the website www.australianshepherdsfurever.org was developed to educate the public on this intelligent and beautiful breed, and provide resources to those seeking help or willing to contribute to the Adopt, Save and Foster (ASF) philosophy. ASF filed for non- profit status in July 2013 and obtained its status in July 2014 and through proactive networking, partnerships, training/rehabilitation and fundraising, ASF has saved the lives of countless dogs to include those with Parvo, Mange, Tick Disease, Cancer, Pneumonia, broken limbs and some of the most extreme cases of abuse that one could imagine. ASF focuses on the Aussies that most would turn their backs on. ASF is in its 5th year and over 1,910 Australian Shepherds have been rescued from high kills shelters, abusive owners and other high-risk situations.
We, as humans, have a responsibility to uphold, shelter and care for those beings that are less fortunate, that are simply cast away. Thanks to proactive individuals who work collectively, Aussies nationwide are being given a chance at a better life through Australian Shepherds Volunteers are an integral component of ASF for the maintenance of the website, screening potential fosters and adopters, providing training, fundraising, data base management, networking and transporting of recued Aussies. All Volunteers; Adopters, Fosters, Trainers and Transporters etc. are carefully screened and vetted to assure the safe and vital placement of these dogs into furever homes. We currently have over 170 foster families and over 160 dogs in foster care nationwide. We have professional trainers to work with our dogs with severe behavioral issues. We also have a team of Rescue Coordinators, Medical Advisors, Fundraisers, Regional Reps, Application Processors, Data Base Managers, Social Media Managers, Microchip and ID tag Registrars and Ground and Air Transport Coordinators that work together to save these beautiful dogs.
