My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Tank! While he is for lack of a better word....a tank, he is also the definition of gentle giant! Don't let his size fool you- you wants to love and be loved! He takes treats gently and will show you sit so nicely! He loves pets and he has plenty of surface area to take them :)

Tank is available for foster and adoption at ACCT Philly. You can meet him any day from 10am-6pm. Interested fosters should email foster@acctphilly.org. He hopes to see you soon!

Behavior:
Per Volunteer 4/21/24: Such a big goober! At first when I approached his kennel he hard barked at me and jumped on the door. It was definitely intimidating at first but I realized how loose and wiggly it was so I continued with attempting to leash. He allowed leashing easily and hopped right out with me! He's definitely a strong boi, he could use a harness as he pulls a big. Outside he showed me sit so many times and loved getting treats for it. He took treats so gently! He can be jumpy and is a big lover, he doesn't seem to know his size so I'd recommend no small humans. Silly boy with toys, he liked to shake them around and he would fetch them back to me. He took pets all over. Sweet silly guy!

Per Staff 4/21/24: Tank got out for some activity time today! He was easy to leash in kennel, greeted with wags and soft eyes, and came right out. When we got to the room he sniffed around for a minute before happily trotting up to me and soliciting attention. Tank is a LOVE! He is so happy and excited to be with people. He gets a little too excited and starts jumping around! He does the most adorable little paw flails as he stands up, like he's trying not to land on you so hard but he's just so big he can't help it! It's especially funny when he's waiting for a treat. He can "sit" and "paw", but gets so excited for a treat that a lot of the time he just jumps up! Tank half jumped into my lap at one point and just laid there, soaking up some pets and attention. He's great for some deep pressure therapy! I adore Tank and his big goofiness. He LOVES squeaky toys and played with two different toys for over 10 minutes. He would shake them around in his mouth and throw them so that he could chase them and start the game all over. He let me pet him and grab the toys that were in his mouth with no issues, he just wants to have fun with you. Tank is the most goofy, loving, friendly tank of a dog that you'll ever meet! When it was time to return to kennel he returned with no issue.

Per Staff 4/19/24: As soon as we entered the room Tank started bouncing around happily. He is such a happy boy! He took some time to sniff around the room and go potty, but did stop and show me some tricks for treats! He knows "sit" and "paw", and gets so excited to give you his paw! He gets a little jumpy and excited during trick time, but he was easy to manage. Tank also took the treats incredibly gently, making sure not to get my fingers at all. He enjoys treats and affection, and will come running up to you when called. Tank allowed all over handling with no issues! Super friendly and social, he tries to be aware of his size (his jumping gets the better of him). He's an overgrown love bug! I can see why kids on his block would play with him!
Gets jumpy and with his size he can be a lot. He tries not to completely bulldoze you or knock you over, but he's a big boy! He tries to redirect his energy onto toys but doesn't always work, but you can push him off of you when he jumps.

Per Staff 4/18/24: 12:03
Dog appears friendly, neighbors stated that the dog plays with all the kids on the block

ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details.

If you are a rescue interested in pulling this animal, please email our lifesaving team, or visit here if you are not currently a rescue partner: https://acctphilly.org/acct-philly-love-local-partnership-program/

Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging a dog or cat.

Confirmed placement is considered confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent

All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia, as the only open intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia. ACCT Philly's Pennsylvania kennel license number is 08313

More about this shelter

The Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT Philly) is the region’s largest animal care and control service provider. ACCT Philly is an independent, 501c3 nonprofit organization, contracted by the City of Philadelphia to provide animal control services. Our animal control officers provide service over 142.6 square miles to the city’s more than 1.5 million residents and ACCT Philly’s facility in North Philadelphia handles more than 17,000 of the city’s animals, from dogs and cats, to small animals, reptiles, birds and wildlife, annually.

In addition to animal control and sheltering, ACCT Philly is open 365 days a year for pet adoptions. ACCT Philly also supports a foster care program where community members provide temporary homes for sheltered animals and one of the (if not THE) most extensive rescue partnership program in the country where approved rescue partners accept ACCT Philly animals into their adoption programs. Under contract ACCT Philly’s Animal Control Officers provide animal control services and code enforcement. Other exciting ACCT Philly programs include a food pantry for low-income pet owners, a vibrant volunteer program, trap-neuter-return for community cats, a unique Pen Pal program to assist dogs at risk … and so much more!
