Sampson is as sweet as they come. He`s a people pleaser, a social butterfly, who gets along with everyone, and all size dogs. When on walks he loves to stop and meet everyone who crosses his path. He`ll sometimes give a little face licking too. His spirit is easily captured in his grins, and through his love for treats. He loves having some outdoor time and if you`re looking for a walk dog, he`s the easy button and knows all the cues you expect a mature dog to know, like sit, stay, down, come and heel. He makes an nice companion that just fits in so easily. He is advocated for by ClassicCaninesATX who are helping to make bridges home for displaced mature dogs that took a fork in the road of life due to hardships. Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

Go meet their pets

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00am to 7:00pm. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
