Captain was born in late May of 2019 and we got him as a pup. Looking for someone to rehome him to, we feel that we are lacking on time right now to spend with him, so he gets a little mischievous :) Want him to go to a good home that will treat him right. Loves kids, we have kids between 1 and 6, and he does great with all of them. He lives to play fetch, hauls anything over that he can grab if he can't find his ball at the time. He does pretty well with neighbor dogs, just does not like being surprised from behind by another dog. Lived with our cat for about a year... took a little getting used to but got along fine shortly after. This winter he was in the vet to get all of his vaccines up to date as well as getting neutered. Should be good to go!

Their adoption process

1.
Submit Application

We will only be calling applications that are a possible match for the dog or cat.

2.
Interview

The case manager of that dog or cat will contact you by phone or email to set up a meet and greet,if you are a possible match for them.

3.
Meet the Pet

If they think you are a good match, we may set up a home visit or the case manager will request pictures of your home.

4.
Sign Adoption Contract

Take the Pet Home

All pets have a 10 day adjustment period for a home visit.

Additional adoption info

AHS does not do same-day adoptions. We provide a form called a “Statement of Interest” for potential adopters to fill out. When completed, this form is reviewed by an AHS volunteer (the animal’s Case Manager) who will contact the potential adopter with any additional questions and arrange a meeting if it looks like a good match. those who look like a good match.
Adoption fees for DOGS are:
Puppies (up to age 18 months): $400(plus $170 spay/neuter deposit)
Adult (18 months - 8 years old): $325
Seniors (8 years and up): $200
(There is an additional $170 spay/neuter deposit for Adults/Seniors not already neutered/spayed.)
Adoption fees for CATS are:
Kittens up to 6 months.-$200
Young adult cats 7 months -3 years $175
Adults cats - 4-7 years -$150
Seniors cats-8 and up. $100
Fee includes basic shots, spay or neuter, and microchip
All cats are FIV/FELV tested

The Alternative Humane Society is an all-volunteer, nonprofit animal welfare organization serving Whatcom County, WA. AHS has been helping animals and educating the public since 1977.

We have no shelter, office, or paid staff. Our programs include Canine and Feline Foster & Adoption, Spay & Neuter Assistance, and Community Cats Information and Referral.

Mission Statement: The Alternative Humane Society of Whatcom County is an all-volunteer, non-profit animal welfare organization dedicated to improving the lives of dogs and cats and helping them find and stay in permanent loving homes.
