My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Well hi there! My name is RUPERT (they call be "Ruperto" down here in Mexico) and here is some info about me:

PHYSICAL INFO:

  • Breed: Shepherd mix

  • Age: 7 years

  • Gender: Male

  • Weight: 62 lbs (28.4 kg)

  • Length (nose to butt): 94 cm

  • Height (paws to top of head): 72 cm

  • Height (floor to shoulders): 62 cm

  • Neck Circumference: 41 cm

  • Chest Circumference: 74 cm

  • Current Location: MEXICO CITY

RESCUE STORY - Me and my five brothers and our mama were rescued from a garbage dump in Chimalhuacan, Mexico many years ago. I have lived my life at the shelter ever since... almost 7 years now! My brothers and mama were all adopted... except me (for no fault of my own!).  All of my other brothers found adopters while they were still puppies, all except me. Can you believe that a handsome, sweet boy like me hasn't found a home yet?! I really hope it's finally my turn to find my forever home- I am so deserving of unconditional love for the rest of my life!

TEMPERAMENT - I am a very calm boy who is shy at first when meeting new people. I am a brave boy who can overcome my shyness with time- treatos help too! I loveee carrots, yum! I Am a chill dude who is neutral around other dogs (I don't play much). I enjoy going for walks and loveee taking long naps. I'm really just a lovely good boy who wants to go for lots of walks and be loved.

ENERGY LEVEL - Low-Medium energy. I am a middle aged dude who is pretty low energy. I like to go for walks and love to sniff and explore... but then I'm also super happy to snooze and cuddle up.

GETS ALONG WITH:

  • Kids – Unknown.

  • Dogs –  I get along well with the all the other doggies at the shelter. I don't play a ton, but I'm neutral amongst my many shelter foster-siblings (video)

  • Cats – Unknown

PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around cats/squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.

TRAINING:

  • Leash skills – Work in progress (but not too shabby!). Here is a video of me on leash so you can see for yourself (video). A well-fitted harness and some dedicated leash training will continue to set me up for success in my forever home. I haven't had as much leash practice and socialization as most 7-year old dogs, so I will need a patient adopter willing to work with me on these things.

  • House training – Work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home :)

Please Note: WCP Dog Rescue partners with Unleashed Dog Training (Hannah Swain, Balanced Dog Trainer) to offer adopters 50% off one training session (not including tax and applicable gas surcharges). Any subsequent sessions will be offered at standard rates. WCP also highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.

HEALTH NOTES:

  • I am neutered and vaccinated. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.

  • I will be tested for Brucellosis, Parvo, Distemper, and Heartworm before flying North.

ADOPTION FEE:

My adoption fee is $650.00 CAD + applicable taxes, which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver.

The info included in each WCP bio is provided to us from the international rescuer. WCP does not have in-person access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions, although we ask for video proof of a dog's attributes wherever possible. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person(s) adopting them and the environment in which they live.

WCP is unable to guarantee the accuracy of a dogs age and/or breed. These are strictly "best guesses" based on veterinary exams and their educated estimates.
