My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Clara is a stunningly beautiful girl.

Clara is very sweet and inquisitive. She is still young and playful, but needs some extra attention to make sure she gets enough physical activity.

She enjoys playing with string toys, cat-safe balls, and red laser toys but will make you work for it!

She also loves scratch boards.

She is motivated by food and will make her cravings known to you. It will be important to set a firm boundary around meal times and portions so she gets the hint.

She is very talkative in general, and sometimes forgets you’re home and will call out for you. She has lots of different voices and sayings, which are always fun to hear.

She enjoys cozy and comfortable spots around the house and has different periods when she likes to change up her napping spots.

Clara is very loving and enjoys pets frequently, but also just likes to sit close by and be in your company, and will often take your seat if you get up — so watch out!

She is also serious about her hygiene - she keeps herself very well groomed throughout the day and somehow manages to keep her fur shinning in sunlight and smelling sweet. She is not a big shedder and is comfortable getting brushed.

She still struggles to be friendly with the nail clipper, but holding her from the neck like her cat mom would reminds her trimming is safe (and a treat right after seals the deal).

Clara is good around plants, is not a big jumper, and doesn’t have an itch to knock things over or scratch anything that’s not her toys. She would make a great member of a loving family and we think she could get along with other pets, like a dog.

Clara has tested positive for FelV. Many cats who test positive for FelV never exhibit symptoms and can live long normal lives. It is important that they live only with other FelV positive cats, although they can live safely with dogs and other pets without risk of transmission

More about this rescue

Hyde Park Cats is a local, all volunteer group dedicated to helping stray and homeless cats in and around Chicago's Hyde Park. We received our 501©(3) status in 2014 and we were founded in 2008. See all our adoptable kitties on our webpage: http://hydeparkcats.org/adopt/

All of our cats are in loving foster homes, which means the cat or cats you adopt will be familiar with the sounds, smells and movements of life in a home and accustomed to living with humans. Our adoptable have been interacting on a daily basis with people who know this particular cat intimately, and the foster mom or dad can tell you all about the cat's individual personality, habits, preferences. You can't judge a cat by its cover! And while we can't predict the future or know everything about a cat, we can help you choose the cat who is right for you.

We have an adoption application and an adoption fee. This fee goes towards covering their vet costs. All cats adopted out by us are neutered/spayed, micro-chipped, tested for FIV/FeLV, and treated for fleas and worms.
