Dutiful momma Hydee interrupted her kitten hood to put her heart and soul into making sure her 3 kittens would reach the safe life in New York she’d never known in Puerto Rico. Witnessing her selfless devotion, her rescue heroes wouldn’t think of leaving her behind. We’re delighted to welcome the super star momma cat whose babies are already all with loving families. Promising her it’s her turn now makes this very grateful lady hopeful that she too will soon live her best life in her very own peaceful home. After all of her hard work, Hydee would prefer to retire from sharing herself with other felines and would her thrilled to renew her kitten spirit in a home all to herself.

When you come down to NSALA an associate will help you figure out what kind of animal will do best in your situation. At that point they will take out the animals you are interested in so that you may get to know them. You will have plenty of time to play and interact with your new friend in our family friendly areas designated for that purpose. When you decide you want to adopt, an associate will help you fill out an application.

Our adoption fees are as follows:
Puppies (up to 6 months) $350
Adult Dogs (over 6 months) $100
Puppy Mill Rescues $250
Small Breed & Pure Breeds (over 6 months) $250
Kittens (up to 6 months) $100
Double Kittens $150
Adult Cats (over 6 months) $50
Double Adult Cats $75

Where applicable, a $50 Spay/Neuter deposit is required for kittens, $75 for puppies.

Our Adoption Center, is open every Thursday-Sunday 12pm-8pm. On average, our shelter is home to 350 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens. Behind the scenes, the Adoption Center contains a nursery area, medical examination room and a grooming area where new admissions are health checked, vaccinated, bathed and groomed.

Visitors are reminded that adoption is a lifelong commitment. After selecting a pet, each potential adopter is thoroughly screened, ensuring each adopter recognizes the life-changing commitment a new pet can be. To date, over 1,000,000 pet owners have met our high standards and adopted a pet from North Shore Animal League America.
