My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Joker!!! This 1 yeah old lab, great Pyrenees mix, is a hilarious and mischievous pup who is always ready to bring the fun wherever he goes! This four-legged bundle of joy with his goofy antics and endless energy that can brighten up even the gloomiest of days.
But don't let his playful nature fool you, because Joker is also a dog with a discerning taste in friends. He's what you might call "dog selective," meaning he prefers to choose his furry companions wisely. It's like he has a secret doggy VIP club, and only the coolest and most compatible canines are allowed in!
Now, Joker isn't just all about fun and games; he's a dog on a mission to find his true calling. He's eager to put his boundless energy and intelligence to good use. Whether it's fetching the morning newspaper, helping with the laundry (though he might get a little too excited and turn it into a game of tug-of-war), or even assisting in gardening (he's got a knack for digging holes, after all), Joker is ready to take on any task with enthusiasm.
But here's the catch: Joker needs a strong handler who can keep up with his zest for life. Someone who can match his energy level and guide him with a firm yet loving hand. Think of it as being the captain of a ship, steering Joker through the waves of excitement and adventure, while also providing the structure and guidance he needs to thrive.
With the right handler by his side, Joker is like a superhero ready to save the day, one wagging tail at a time. He's a dog who will make you laugh until your sides hurt, and then melt your heart with his unwavering loyalty and affection.
So, if you're looking for a furry companion who will keep you entertained, make you smile, and maybe even help you with a few household chores (or create some new ones), then Joker is the dog for you. Get ready for a lifetime of laughter, love, and unforgettable adventures with this one-of-a-kind, fun-loving, and job-seeking canine superstar!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process is very simple.

1) Shoot us an email! And one of our representatives will send you out a copy of our application. Fill that out and get it back to us immediately. Time is of the essence and we do everything first come first serve!
2) Once we receive it a representative will be in touch with you to find out what it is that you are looking for, what your home is like, and who lives there. We then try to make sure that the dog you are interested in, is going to be a perfect match for your household.
3) It normally takes a couple of days for an application to be processed, but once approved we do a home check.
4) Adoption fee is $450.00. This is a reimbursement for all that we have done your dog. This fee covers all of their vetting, vaccinations, spay/neuter, health certificate and evaluation, and their cost of transport.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

Almost all of our dogs are adopted on a pre-adoption basis as they are not located in NJ.

On the occasion that one of our pups is here in NJ, all meet and greets are done through appointment only after an application has been approved. If interested in meeting one of our wonderful babies please contact us at: southernpawsrescue@gmail.com or call her at 973-556-5885.

More about this rescue

Southern Paws Inc. is a Non-Profit organization that works very closely with southern rescue groups to provide needed homes for dogs in the Southern United States. Through our program we also work to help them gain needed resources and funding that is strongly lacking in the south. It is our goal to not only provide loving homes for these dogs but to also help better shelters and shelter life in the South. We work specifically with rescue groups in Louisiana and Mississippi which is where our dogs are currently located. All of our dogs are adopted on a pre-adoption basis and then transported to NJ after the adoption process is complete. Upon arrival they go into a 24-48 hour monitoring period, where we make sure that they have made it through transport safe, happy, and healthy. After that time period, these dogs go into their forever home. It is a long journey but it is well worth the trip.

We put all of our dogs through a very stringent vetting process, deworm them multiple times, run fecal exams, spay & neuter, vaccinate and have them checked multiple times by the vet. Before they are transported, each of our dogs must receive a health certificate clearing them for travel. This fee also helps us cover the cost of transport and any other medical attention the dog may require upon arrival. There is a $500 adoption fee.

Please note that for all adoptions taking place after April 1, 2022 our adoption fee has increased $50 to be a total of $500. This is to help up cover all costs for the pups such as vetting, medicine, gas and other typical costs. With these having gone up over the last year, we need to increase the adoption fee to continue the work we do and help as many dogs as possible. This will mean our non-refundable deposit following the phone interview will be a total of $100 with the additional $400 due on adoption day.

Because almost all of our dogs are pre-adopted there is no meet and greet process with our dogs. If you must meet the dog before you adopt then that is totally understandable, however we may not be the best program for you. We do have a back up program just in case a dog doesn't do well in his new home. In that case the pup goes back into foster care and will be put up for adoption again in the state of NJ.
