My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ava is a five year old shepherd mix that was recently transferred to rescue when her mom passed away after a very short but courageous battle with cancer. She has a soft shy personality and lived with another dog that was protective of her, so as you can imagine, these recent changes have been a big adjustment. Ava is really starting to show her personality as she gets comfortable; she is appropriate with other dogs and beginning to instigate play, loves exploring the world on walks, and enjoys curling up by your feet or on the couch with you. She's in foster with a professional positive-reinforcement trainer who says she's a super gal. Although she takes a little bit of time to warm up to new people, she is extremely sweet. We believe Ava would do best in a quieter home without young children and lots of commotion, and would be fine in a home with respectful dogs that match her energy level. She is fully house trained, and can be crated, though she is non-destructive in the home when left unattended. She would be happy with another dog in the house but dog parks are too overwhelming for her. She demonstrates a lot of body language about how she is feeling. If body language is respected she will quickly build a trustworthy relationship. New owners will need to learn about body language (ex: lip licks, appeasement kisses, whale eyes, eye contact, pet consent). She listens well, knows basic obedience, does need to learn better leash skills. Ava is spayed, fully vaccinated, wormed, on heartworm prevention, and microchipped with registration. Her adoption fee is $350.

Go meet their pets

We are a foster-based organization. To meet an animal, please stop by one of the many adoption events in and around the Denver area that we attend. To see where we will be next, check out our event calendar at: http://lifeisbetterrescue.org/pages/adoptable.html.

More about this rescue

Our goal is simple. We would like to enter the rescue community to serve as many animals as we are able. To have volunteers with the same motivation, who can independently work to save lives and find homes. To give an infrastructure to self-sufficient rescuers so that they can assist as they are able.

Most importantly, we want to help teach behavior that helps with permanent adoption. To save animals at any stage and prepare them for a life well lived. To impart the message that for them, life is better, and will only get better from here on out.
