My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Everly came to the shelter as a stray after she was found running the streets. She is a beautiful black dogs with expressive ears. Despite her initial apprehension, she's gradually finding her courage within the shelter walls. Everly's heart is warmed by the kindness of her shelter pals, and she looks for comfort by soliciting pets. Everly eagerly awaits a loving family to open their hearts and home to her, offering the forever home she so deserves!

Everly is currently eligible for rescue, foster and adoption. Head to ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., or email foster@acctphilly.org to express interest in fostering her!

Behavioral:

Per volunteer on 4/29/24: She has nice kennel presence - laying on her bed - got up, easy to leash. She is getting much more braver, even saw some tail wags.
Hardly any head shaking, comes to me for pets, still no interest in toys.

Per staff on 4/28/24: I got to hang out with Everly today! In kennel she was easy to leash, came right up to the door with soft eyes and put her head right through the loop. She walks with a mixture of nice slack leash and some strong pulling. We went outside to a yard to hang out and as soon as we got out there Everly started going potty. I think she may be house trained, since her kennel was spotless and she did a LOT of pottying! After she got all of her stuff out she did a big shake off and walked right up to me with a low wagging tail and soft eyes. I offered her some treats but she wasn't interested. She instead put her head right under my hand and allowed some pets. After she knew I was nice and would give her pets, she pressed her whole body into me and curled up under me. She gave me some sweet, gentle face kisses and wagged her tail as I pet her. She is such a sweetheart!! A dog walked by and she excitedly trotted up to the fence. She gave nice sniffs with a mid level wagging tail and neutral body and ears. When the dog walked away Everly came back up to me for more pets. She stuck close to me the rest of our time together and accepted all the love I could give. When it was time to go inside I brought her into the office but she seemed stressed out by the small space. She jumped up on the door and pawed and whined. I brought her back to her kennel and she hopped right in and got a drink of water. Overall, a very sweet little lady who just wants pets and love!

Per volunteer on 4/27/24: Everly was at the front of her kennel, tail wagging, ready to be leashed. Outside she Immediately peed , definitely trying to stay house-trained.
She had a lot of ointment in her ears, so that might have been the reason for all the head shaking that day.
I was glad to see her feeling comfortable; she happily came to me for pets, at one point burying her head in my lap. She also gave kisses. She showed me she knew the sit cue.
With coaxing she ran a short ways with me in the yard, but still no interest in toys.
No issue return her.

Per volunteer on 4/25/24: When I went to get her, she came forward, no issue leashing, walks briskly thru the aisles. In the yard, she came to me for pets, but her tail was still tucked. I noticed there was a lot of head shaking so put in a vet check for her ears.
Still no interest in toys.
No issue returning her to her kennel.

Per volunteer on 4/24/24: In her kennel, Everly was very hesitant to approach me, usually retreating to the back side of her kennel. I sat on the edge of her kennel to offer her hotdogs and pets.. She came to the front, allowed me to pet her, took the hotdog treats, and peered out the kennel door, curious to see what was happening in the aisle.

Using hotdogs, I eventually looped her and coaxed her to step out. She was a bit nervous walking through the aisles, and once outside, proved she might be trying to stay housetrained. She was good thru the fence for a brief meet.
We walked to the small yard, where I thought she'd feel more comfortable. She had no interest in getting pets, the hotdog treats, or toys. She was intent on looking for a way out. While she stood at the gate, I was able to pet her, and she didn't shrink back.
Since she wanted to leave the yard, I walked her back to her kennel. No issue returning her or removing my leash.
