My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Macie Grey spent years living most of her time with a feral cat population, near the coast. She was thin and sad and infested with fleas. In one of her pictures, you can see that this brave dog had lost much of her coat and was very thin and dejected, and most likely lonely, but she carried on. Those days are now behind her! Macie Grey is on her way to living her best life.

Estimated to be 8-10 years old and about 55 lbs, Macie Grey is going to be a strikingly beautiful Goldendoodle once her coat grows in and she gains some weight. She was gifted a spa day by the groomer at the vet's office to cheer her up, and she loved it! Look at how proud she looks after her spa day wearing her little purple bow!

She is a very gentle dog with a lovely personality. She enjoys attention, especially when people speak softly to her and pet her. She met dogs at our vet clinic with a wagging tail, and cats have been her friends for years. Macie Grey walks nicely on a leash without pulling, and she has a low energy level; thus, easy companionable walks are on her wish list. One of her favorite things is soft Milkbone treats, which she absolutely loves. She is otherwise not a good eater but we're working on that.

Macie Grey is a smart dog. One night her kennel door was latched incorrectly, and she figured out how to open it. In the morning, she was discovered enjoying herself exploring the vet clinic! True to her Golden side, she loves all people and sometimes leans into you when you pet her (the Golden Lean!).

Not surprisingly, Macie Grey tested positive for heartworm and is currently being treated. She is spayed, vaccinated, and micro-chipped. She is taking an inexpensive anti-inflammatory medicine to help with weakness in her hips, something she will need in her new life. However, this sweetheart doesn't let anything stop her, and puts her front paws up on a car seat, ready to go! Macie Grey seems to know she's on her way to her happiest days.

Macie Grey will be an awesome companion. She will be ready to travel to her home in early June but don't wait to ask about this nice and very deserving dog. She is ready for a home where she will never feel lonely again.

If you would like to be part of Macie Grey's rescue story, and you have already been approved for adoption through SGRR, please contact Candy to be considered to adopt Macie Grey.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.

Additional adoption info

The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants'life style.

We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Applicants with no dog ownership experience may not find they are a good match for one of our Rescues. Rescue Goldens come with 'baggage' and very little training so they require people that have an understanding of the nature of dogs and a willingness to work and seek help with one of our Golden Rescues if needed.

The adoption process has proven to be very successful for all. Our goal is to place rescues in their 'forever' homes and to do so, we need to determine is the best match not only for the dog but for the adopters. The Rescue's Committee determines what type of home the Golden needs and what type of dog would fit best in the applicants' homes. This has proven to make all involved very happy.

For more details or to complete an application, please visit our website at www.sunshinegoldenrescue.com

For those applicants that are willing to wait for the right 'match' and not shopping around, please feel free to apply and get pre-approved.

Go meet their pets

Our available Goldens and Golden Mixes are listed on our website, www.sunshinegoldenrescue.com

Anyone interested in adopting one of our available dogs must complete an application online.

We do not have a facility to visit our dogs, but once an applicant is approved and a possible match is determined, approved applicants will be given information on how to contact the rescue's foster for details or to schedule a meeting.

More about this rescue

We are a network of volunteers based in New England who are dedicated to saving and finding homes for Golden Retrievers and Retriever Mixes in need. We have volunteers throughout the North East including Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Vermont; as well as volunteers in the South East.

We work to save homeless Golden Retrievers and Retriever Mixes from shelters, municipal pounds, and dogs released directly from owners who can no longer care for them.

We do our best to assess each dog's medical needs, temperment, behavior, habits, and exercise needs. Each dog receives necessary vet care including all vaccinations and are spay/neutered before adoption if old enough. Heartworm testing is performed and if positive, the dog is treated. We then carefully select homes based on the needs of each individual Golden.

Everyone of our volunteers has a desire to save as many homeless dogs that we can. Individually, we can only rescue so many dogs in need. As a group, working together, we can help more Golden Retrievers and Golden Mixes find their forever home.

Our common thread may be our appreciation for the Golden Retriever, but if we could, we would save all dogs in need.

Our group is always in need of additional volunteers and fosters to help in the process which can be extremely rewarding. Other ways to help would be to make a monetary donation. For information on volunteer work, fostering, or to make a donation, please go to our website www.sunshinegoldenrescue.com Your help will be extremely appreciated!!
