My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please contact Kady Hammer (KadyH@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet gent seeking fresh start and love!

CHET NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name:  Chet      Best Guess for Breed:  German Shepherd/Shepherd mix

Best Guess for Age: 4 years as of March 2024       SEX:    Male

Approximate Weight:  63 lbs

Gets Along With:  Other dogs! We haven't seen him with kids but he can be tested. Chet lives with a cat and does not seem interested in chasing and leaves the cat alone.

Currently Living at:  DC area foster home.

Special adoption considerations: Chet is a truly Lucky Dog! He tested positive for Heartworm disease but has already been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites.  Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the adoption counseling process.

Chet is Looking For: His forever home! This sweet gent needs a new home through no fault of his own. He's eager to once again have his own humans - German shepherds are known for being quite attached to their people! Long sniffy walks and world exploration with them is on his wish list, as are a cushy dog bed and quality kibble. But you know what's right at the top of the list? Being safe and loved and under his own roof for all his days.

Shelter staff say he's very easy on the leash and very good with other dogs. He's in his prime as an adult, well out of the puppy yips, and is more than ready to ease into his new humans' home and hearts. In exchange, they get the immense amount of love and loyalty he is storing up for his new family. What do you say? Is that going to be you?

What My Foster Says About Me:  Chet (Chetty Bear!) is very sweet and loving. He is a little shy and nervous at first - probably due to whatever he experienced before. He is slowly learning to open up and live in a house - his manners are improving every day! He gets a little started in busy environments and can freeze. He also gets nervous on slippery floors. His silly and goofy personality is starting to come out too. Chet, Teddy, Chettie, Chettie Bear, Chettie Spaghetti, Chettie Boo, is a really great dog and would benefit from a really understanding home that will be patient as he adjusts!

Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!

Go meet their pets

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at www.luckydoganimalrescue.org.
