My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Gertrude is a wonderful, soulful companion who loves messy kisses and long walks. She is a beautiful, young (1-2 year old ), 42 lb. mixed breed with silky soft chocolate brown fur so dark she looks black in the sunlight and lovely white markings. She is incredibly affectionate with people she trusts though she can be a little shy at the start. She seems to prefer women. Gertrude loves her best friend Alice (with whom she was found) but does not trust other dogs yet. She is not recommended for a home with cats.

Gertrude has been the recipient of a 5 week training program at the prestigious Lara's Canine Solutions in Wimberley ($3200 value). She knows her commands including sit, down, stay and come, and is a smart girl eager to learn more. She is also leash-trained, house-trained and crate-trained.

Gertrude was found with her BFF Alice as a stray in the middle of a parking lot, starving, filthy and terrified. Over the past four months, she has made enormous strides. She has not only undergone an intensive training program, she has been treated for heartworm, spayed and is ready to find her forever home.
Due to circumstances beyond their control, Gertrude and Alice currently live in an office environment where they love nothing more than to lie near their foster's feet (Gertrude loves that space heater) all day long. Although they are young, they are both relatively low energy dogs, grateful to have a safe place to crash off the streets, and happy to just hang out all day. They survived on the street together and would love to stay together in an adoptive home but can be adopted separately.

Local adoption fee is $400 (together in TX)
Out of state adoption fee is $800 (together, includes transport to your area - $50 Temporary Fuel Charge will be added)

Additional adoption info

Adoption application required.

Adoptions applications are checked by contacting references and veterinarians of those with pets to ensure our pups go to the best homes possible. We work hard to place dogs into the right families, but sometimes we realize the fit isn't quite working out for the adopter or the pet..

If an adoption does not work out and we have room to take the dog back into the rescue, we will. However, the sheer number of needy animals in TX usually means we become full quickly after the dog is adopted. So, in those cases we will post the animal locally, and help the adopter screen applicants and facilitate finding another adoptive home for the pet in your area.

Go meet their pets

We are a TEXAS based rescue who transport regularly to this area. Our dogs are in TEXAS and will be transported to you if you adopt from us.

Our pets are posted on our website, and most live in homes with their fosters. We live with our foster dogs to get to know them in a home setting and to let them know that life can be good away from the streets.

We work to correct poor behaviors, teach manners and observe each dogs particular quirks and personalities so we can give accurate observations of the dogs you are interested in.

We know that dogs will sometimes behave differently with different people but we can give you our impressions of our pups and situations they have been in.
