My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Sassy!

Sassy is very friendly with people (kids, too!) and has made friends with several dogs at the shelter. She wants to play, play, play and would love to go home with you! She enjoys walks (although a strong puller) and will melt in your lap once she’s home and relaxed. Sassy came to us from a local animal control where she was found as a stray wandering with her litter of puppies. Her puppies were quickly adopted, but Sassy still waits for someone to choose her! Sassy is an explorer and would do great with someone looking for an adventure pal or an active partner. She knows how to calm down once she's settled for night and is a super loving gal. She deserves a home of her own, and we'd love to see her adopted soon! We have play rooms and outdoor areas at the shelter if you'd like to spend time with Sassy to get to know her, and fostering before adoption is an option as well. Come by and meet this gorgeous girl and we'll be happy to tell you all we know about her!

Sassy is 2 years old and weighs 60 pounds. She's spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, heartworm negative, and current on all her flea/tick/heartworm preventatives.

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of Tuolumne County is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization established December 12, 1947 . At that time, however, there was no facility. The animals available for adoption were kept in volunteers’ homes. In the late l980’s, the Humane Society gained a business office, but the animals were still kept in the homes of volunteers. Then, in 1997, the Humane Society acquired its current facility in Jamestown where there are 35 dog runs and 36 cat cages with a capacity to shelter over 90 animals.

We are a limited intake facility. Half our adoptable animals come from Tuolumne County Animal Control, and the remaining adoptable animals are owner released.

Our mission: Find Homes for abandoned, abused and unwanted cats & dogs, while promoting responsible pet ownership. To provide and maintain a clean and safe haven for adoptable unwanted dogs and cats and promote responsible pet ownership.

We are 100% supported through private donations and volunteers.
The HSTC does not euthanize an animal unless our team agrees its quality of life is critically compromised.
HSTC placed over 500 companion animals into homes 2007-2008 fiscal years.
We have a net loss of $205 on every dog and $80 on every cat adopted out.
We accept as many animals for adoption that our donations and volunteers can support.
More donations and volunteers=more happy adopted pets and fewer animals euthanized.
During County-wide emergencies our crew of staff & volunteers assist Animal Control with pet rescue and providing temporary shelter.
Assistance is available to low income cat owners from SNAP (Spay Neuter Assistance Program), program held the last week of each month.
