My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Each dog you meet has its own unique personality, yes, but do some breeds come with a preset number of qualities- YES! Labs for example, we all think of similar things when we think of a lab- goofy, affectionate, water-loving, toy-chasing good-dogs that are smart and highly trainable. Of course in rescue we cannot know a dogs breed with a 100% confidence but look at Acorn here and tell me he isn’t a lab! Watch him play in the water, see how much he adores chasing a toy, spend even a few minutes looking at him in action and you will agree- that boy has to be some kind of lab and just in case there is a doubt, we will call him a lab-mix. Watch him in action and you decide.

Acorn is estimated to be a fresh 1 year old and he currently weighs 103 lbs, so this is a big boy who likely still has a bit more growing to do. His size makes you think he is an adult but once you see him playing and running you cannot deny the puppyness is there. It sure is an adorable combination though, he hasn’t quiet mastered the way his body moves so it all looks silly in the best possible way. If you can remember that he is still young, everything makes sense. For example, he gets excited on leash and needs to polish up his skills, but all dogs at his age do and also thanks to his age he is ripe for learning all the skills you could ever want him to master. He knows a few basic commands including sit and shake along with a great base for recall. The starter pack- no additional cost. Of course we have no way of knowing but Acorn sure seems to know his way around a house and people and we suspect he has likely lived in a family home before being a “rescue.”

Acorns size and age means a house with a yard, acreage as a bonus, is a must have. He loves toys and will be a delight to watch running around playing fetch and cooling off in the pool (even if its only a kiddie pool.) Take him to the beach, camping, hunting, on a hike- he is absolutely up for any adventure! In addition to being friendly, smart, and good-company, he is also great with other dogs and was a gentleman with our house cat! We introduced Acorn to a handful of dogs, different energy levels and sizes and other than having the classic puppy awkards at times, he was great. If you are looking for a canine companion for your current pet, Acorn would love a playful and energetic friend like him! If you are more the one-cat-one-dog kind of person, Acorn is still in the running- he was a gentleman when he met our house cat Tom, giving him respectable distance and not pulling to chase when he got up to get-away fly running up to his cat tree. He is cat tolerant and we believe with the slow introduction and the appropriate corrections as needed, Acorn could happily co-exist with a feline friend.

A classic, good-boy bringing all his playfulness and companionship- available for adoption! Lucky you!

If you have any questions about Acorn or would like us to test him for a specific setting or detail, please be in touch! We can make most anything happen to ensure he is the correct fit for you and your life!

Why adopt from Three Little Pitties?

The stray and animal overpopulation in the Greater Houston area is the highest in the nation. Statistics show that there are over 1 million homeless animals in this region alone. Three Little Pitties Rescue is a nonprofit dog and cat rescue that partners with the community to make a difference. Our mission is to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and saving all breeds of dogs and cats from the streets or animal shelters that oftentimes have no other option but to euthanize animals for space. This dog you’ve found online is lucky to be in our program, and even luckier to have you notice it!

Three Little Pitties wants to set you and your new pet up for success! We know our dogs and we work hard to prepare them socially for adoption. We are a network of dedicated people who are heavily invested in seeing our animals thrive. From the moment they are accepted into our program, our Intake, Behavior & Medical teams prepare them for adoption by properly vetting, behaviorally assessing, and providing customized plans depending on the dog’s needs. We seek to adopt to families who understand that these are rescue dogs and will require continued training efforts, but will be well on their way to being the best dogs that they can be!

It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these special perks:

• 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion (must register within 24 hours of first vet appt.)
• A free private online dog training session with GoodPup plus low pricing for future sessions (approx $25 weekly for an 8 week course of one session per week)
• One free bonus toy in every BarkBox when signing up for their Super Chewer subscription plan
• 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a PNW based, organic fresh dog food loaf meal subscription plan
• Coupons for a fun visit to Petco
• Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup!

We celebrated our 5 year anniversary this year! Through the combined efforts of all of our hardworking staff and volunteers, we have placed over 12,000 very lucky dogs and cats into amazing homes! By adopting from us, you save TWO lives! The pet you adopt, and you create an opportunity for another animal to be saved in that spot. Together, we can be heroes.
