My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Shorty!

Shorty is a delicate, shy girl.

Her unique tortoiseshell coat, long legs and delicate paws bring to mind a glamorous supermodel. She is quiet and can be skittish at first, but with a calm gentle approach and soft voice, she happily enjoys affection from humans with similar personalities.

At mealtime, Shorty can be uncertain and even a little fussy, but she enjoys treats and will pick away at her meal when she has quiet company to reassure her - she's a 'companion eater'.

Shorty needs a home and family who will patiently help her gain confidence to enjoy a new life.

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37,000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
