My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

**Orion is a forever foster because of health reasons.  We welcome any sponsorships and donations to his care.**

Update:

I have been in foster care now for 8 months. I do not like other dogs and if they get in my way I will fight with them. I believe I am getting older and can't tolerate blind, slow moving pups. My foster mommy thinks I will become another forever foster. I just need a quiet home, no children, no other dogs and a mommy and daddy that will love me for who I am. I have had plenty of blood work-ups and everything comes back normal. I can no longer hold my urine even though I am let out several times a day. I do sport a belly band at all times.

My name is Orion. My foster mommy named me, and I already know my name. I was found by a nice lady while wandering the country roads in Winnebago County. I was taken to WCAS and put on a stray hold. No one claimed me so I was taken in under the wings of A Promise of Love Rescue. I have a bit of a smoky past that I don't like to remember. Everyone believes I've been abused physically at some point in my life...because I now have a bite history. I was quarantined for 10 full days in my foster home for biting a volunteer at WCAS just before foster momma picked me up. I also bit my foster momma when she tried to pet me, and bit my foster daddy in the face when he tried to kiss my forehead. Foster momma took me to the doggy doctor and to much of our surprise, I have a Grade 4 Heart Murmur. Since I've been on my new medicine, I am more calm and I show no signs of irritability. I get along with the other foster pups here, I'm pretty much a loner. I love my human family, sit close to them and gently take treats. I like early morning short walks and come home ready to nap and eat breakfast. My appetite is great and I never miss a meal.

I am looking for a quiet home where I will be loved and have a warm bed to sleep in. No children please, they scare me and are a bit rambunctious.

I need my medication daily, Enalapril. It's not expensive, only $13.00 for 2 months. This helps my heart stay strong.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

A Promise of Love is a national, internet-based rescue organization that permits adoptions nationally with appropriate documentation. Our animals are fostered in private homes until they are ready for adoption. As such, we do not have a place of business where animals can be visited.

If you are interested in a particular animal, please submit an adoption application.

Adoption Process

Once we receive your application:

1. It is screened for completeness and to assure that the information provided conforms to our basic standards for adopters. This process includes checking personal and veterinary references.

2. The application is reviewed by our Board of Directors who decide whether the application is suitable for further processing.

3. If the application passes step 2, a home visit is scheduled.

4. The Board decides, based on all the available information including our knowledge of the animal and its needs, whether the adopter is a suitable candidate for adopting a particular animal.

5. A signed adoption contract is required for all adoptions before an animal can be released. We require an adoption fee that helps defray the medical expenses we incur on the animal, which include sterilization, vaccinations, dental and other health care. The general range of these fees are $250.00 to $500.00.

6. Arrangements are made for the adopter to pick up the animal, at the adopter€™s expense.

If you have questions, please contact us at: info@apromiseoflove.org.

More about this rescue

We are a group of friends dedicated to saving the lives of animals and who are experienced with animal rescue. We exist by a network of caring volunteers, foster homes, and cooperating veterinarians. We are all volunteers who strive to save as many breeder releases, owner surrenders, and animals from high-kill shelters as possible.

Our goal is to rescue, provide medical care, socialize, and provide loving foster homes until we match each animal with its carefully screened forever home.
Because every animal deserves a promise of tomorrow, and a gift of life.
