UPDATE: The other day, a young family came to visit Tessa, and introduced her to their almost-two-year-old son. Tessa fell in love!!!! She was so sweetly affectionate with the baby, and spent most of the visit trying to give him her toys -- she would run off, find a toy, and gently place it in his lap! Tessa (tri-colored hound) is just a year old and is a great size at 40 pounds! But beyond that, she is adorable and has a contagious zest for life! She is quite playful but, wow, if you sit down, Tessa is right there next to you! She loves a good toy and loves to zip around! She is already spayed and almost healed and ready to get back with her buddies that she came in with from Sussex! Tessa loves car rides and was fabulous at the vet! Just look at the sweet face - come meet her! Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!

If all goes well and you decide to pursue adoption, you will be asked to complete a pre-adopt. Once your family, including any dogs, have also met with the dog you wish to adopt, your application will be submitted to the Adoption Committee for review. We estimate the pre-adoption process can take up to 14 days or longer.
Please note: AAS is committed to finding the best fit for each of our dogs. For this reason, we will accept multiple applications for a dog. In the case of multiple applications, we will select the applicant that is the best fit based on the needs of the dog.
Adoption fee for puppy/adult dogs is $280.00.
Adoption fee for senior dogs is $140.00.
Dogs qualify as a senior based on their stature/weight and age. The scale below shows the age at which a dog attains “senior” designation:
0-20 lbs: 11 years
21-50: 10 years
51-90: 8 years
91+: 7 years

The purpose of the Society shall be to provide to/and or for animals, other than man, shelter, medical aid, care and protection, to act as a placement agency for animals in good health, and to provide education for the humane care and treatment of animals, and to attempt to prevent cruelty to animals. We are a nonprofit organization that receives no funding from state or federal agencies. All of the funds required to maintain the shelter and care for the dogs come from donations and special fund-raising events. Donations to the shelter are tax deductible.
Our dogs are not euthanized for space. This means that new dogs can only be accepted by the shelter when we have an available kennel.

Regularly walked and exercised
