My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I am by appointment only, please e-mail adoptions@okhumane.org if you wish to meet me!

Meet Buns, also known as Honey Buns, a joyful and spirited dog looking for her forever home. With a bright personality and a love for play, Buns' favorite activities include playing with toys, like stuffed animals, balls, and having chewies to work on. She enjoys spending time outdoors for short walks, playing fetch, and soccer, and is equally content entertaining herself with toys at home. Despite her energetic playfulness, Buns settles quickly when put in her room or crate after having some fun.

Buns thrives on a routine and does best with a structured day that includes morning and evening walks, playtime, and regular meals. She's house-trained, kennel-trained, and knows how to "sit." Though she struggles with meeting new people and dogs, once she warms up, she's extremely affectionate, loyal, and protective of those she trusts. Due to her shyness, slow introductions and patience are key to earning her trust, especially with men and other dogs. Buns is not feline friendly and does well with other dogs with very slow introductions, so experienced dog owners would be best to set Honey Buns up for sucess.

When it comes to cuddling, Buns enjoys being held and carried by those she trusts, especially when she's tired, and she's slowly learning to self-regulate her emotions. She might wiggle and waggle when cuddled, turning it into playtime, but she's also showing signs of enjoying it more. Buns loves starting her day with a snuggle on the bed before heading out for her morning potty break. If you're looking for a lovable, playful companion who values a routine and warms up to those who show her patience and understanding, Buns is the perfect match.

Additional adoption info

Adoption Process
We have an open adoption policy, so there is no application or interview process. We simply ask that you meet the pet in person before adoption. We have adoption specialists that will help you find the right pet for your family.

Adoption Center
The Adoption Center is located at 7500 N. Western Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73116. Our Adoption Center is a totally new concept in Oklahoma City where dogs have comfortable, expanded kennels and cats stay in “living rooms” with furniture and toys.

Pets by Appointment
Some amazing dogs get stressed out in a kennel environment like our Adoption Center, and much prefer staying at their foster home until they find their new family. If you see a dog on our website that says “E-Mail to Meet Me” that means that this furry friend is just a click away from getting a ride to the Adoption Center to meet you in person.

Adoption Fees
Adult dogs are $150 to adopt, puppies are $200 to adopt, adult cats are $75 to adopt and kittens are $95 to adopt. All of our pets are microchipped, spayed or neutered, treated with all age-appropriate vaccinations and flea, tick, and heartworm preventative prior to being cleared for adoption, so we put a lot of effort and monetary investment into each of our animals including a two-week quarantine period in a foster home. These adoption fees help cover the costs of our animals’ health and well-being!
