My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
This pet was brought in by Humane Law Enforcement.

At SDHS:
This pet has been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed/neutered. This pet is now ready for their new home!

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Slate who is somewhat of a clean slate waiting to be shown what he needs to do to be a treasured part of your family. Slate did not attend Miss Manners charm school so he will need a dog savvy family to show him boundaries and good dog behaviors. We will show you how to use positive reinforcement to help Slate become the nice dog that he wants to be. He is a big guy who will learn faster in a more quiet home with a big fenced in yard. He will do best in a tranquil environment without a lot of chaos. He is a natural protector so if you show him how to be your good dog, he will be your very loyal companion. Already Slate has responded favorably to our staff who are helping him find his manners. Do you think you have the desire, skills, patience and space to continue Slate's development? Do you want a good watch dog who will protect and a good snuggler who will love. That's Slate. Want to know more? Come and ask to meet Slate. Big a strong leash. !

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
