This sweet girl was found sleeping in a pile of trash in an area known for people dumping trash. One of wonderful rescue partners was able to gain her trust with food and brought her home. It was discovered that she had a microchip! (YAY) But the phone number didn't work. And then her story got sadder. Upon searching the information on the microchip, it was discovered that her owner, that she had lived with since being a puppy, had recently passed away. After searching for local relatives listed in the obituary, it was discovered that Gemma had been given away and this was the second time she had gotten loose. So, since the family was still the legal owners, they surrendered her so she could find a wonderful home to spend her golden years. Gemma will need a home willing to allow her to come out of her shell at her own pace. We know this can be hard because of course you want to be able to hug and snuggle your newest family member, but some pups just need to be left alone for a while to realize they are in a safe space and their new people aren't going anywhere. She would like another pup to play with. But an older one. She is still playful, but it comes in spurts with long rests in between. She just doesn't have the energy or patience for puppy play. Gemma will need a home with a secure backyard. As she is known to wander if she gets bored. A 6-foot solid wall/fence is required, no chain-link. Because of needing a calm home, we recommend no young children. Their energy and enthusiasm are too much for her. Gemma is spayed, UTD on vaccines and microchipped. Learn more about me and fill out an online adoption application on the From the Heart Rescue website at: www.fthar.org. My requested adoption donation includes my spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations and medical care to date, microchip implantation and registration, collar, leash, and ID tag. From The Heart Rescue is a foster based rescue organization and does not have a traditional physical kennel facility like many humane societies or animal shelters do. Our dogs typically are housed in family homes, cared for by their foster families until we find a forever home for them. Therefore, our process to meet dogs and to adopt may be different than a normal animal control facility, humane society, or animal shelter.
In order to schedule a visit to meet any From The Heart Rescue rescue dog outside of a Meet & Greet Event, you must apply to adopt, successfully complete the application process, and have obtained an approval. We do not adopt on a “first come, first serve” basis, but rather try to get the best match between a dog and family.
We understand it seems like a long process to get through to just meet a dog, however, we want to ensure that dogs and families are a good match for each other. We also feel it important to have potential adopter's screened adequately to ensure that we know who may be engaging with our volunteers and visiting our foster families' homes. Their peace of mind and safety is of utmost importance to From The Heart Rescue.
