My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hey everyone! Opie here from GLDR!

Though my life hasn't always been easy, I'm one tough guy and thanks to the love and support from my foster family, I'm happy to announce I'm HEARTWORM-FREE! After months of treatment, there were plenty of happy tears to go around. I've been given the all clear to find my forever family and am eager to meet YOU!

I'm almost two years old and weigh around 65 pounds. Nobody's quite sure what breed I am, but my foster mom says I'm 100% adorable! Life with my foster family is all I hoped it could be. I live with my foster parents and their fur babies. I have the best time playing with my fellow dog brother, but would prefer a cat-free household.

I'm quite the accomplished tug-of-war player and would welcome a canine sibling of my own! Do you have a family fur baby you'd like me to meet? Just tell me when and I'll be there! I will thrive off of guidance, structure, and lots of mental stimulation and enrichment! I enjoy chewing on bones and other tough toys that can stand up to my playful nature.

I'm proud to report I'm both house-trained and crate-trained and will let you know when I need to go outside. I know a few commands and will be happy to demonstrate just how smart I am for a tasty treat. Speaking of treats, I'm very food-motivated which will be an excellent way to help train me. I have been known to steal a treat or two so things like food puzzles would be perfect for me. My mom is able to take away food and toys from me with no issue.

As I'm still a young man, I'll benefit from continued training by my new family. Daily exercise and a yard for me to enjoy are a must in my new home. I'd love to live with a family that will include me in their daily activities. I like exploring on walks my leash skills are improving everyday! Up for a road trip? I do great in the car and can't wait to see all the places we can go together!

Everyone is always telling me what a handsome fella I am. I do enjoy being brushed and appreciate all the attention you want to give me. I'm a pup who truly bonds with my family and am looking forward to being with people that will always treasure me. I promise to repay you with years of love and happy memories!

Based on their evaluation, my GLDR friends think I'd do best in an active home with adults or families with children ages eight years and up. If I sound like the guy for you, visit greatlakesdogrescue.com today and fill out an application! I just know the best is yet to come!
