My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Fred is about a 2-3 year old male, Black Labrador Retriever that was a stray and pulled from a shelter by GRRAND volunteers. Sadly, Fred has tested positive for heartworms and is looking for a calm laid back home that can help him get through his treatments. He is currently in a temporary home and they say: "He rode perfectly in the car. At GRRAND he was pretty good in the tub and sadly he had a myriad of ticks and we are still finding them this morning.

He slept on his crate (which he chose immediately when he saw it). He doesn't countersurf nor get on the furniture.  He follows me but we are still working on leash walking. He refuses to leave the kitchen. He gets along well with our other dogs and they too have accepted him.

He didn't eat last night but did when I enticed him with a bit of cheese this morning. He's quite intelligent and already responds to his name You can see his coat is so shiny"!

We will update as we learn more, but if you would like to meet Fred, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org

More about this rescue

Early in 1994, members of the Greater Louisville Golden Retriever Club began to see the need for an organization to rehabilitate and find homes for displaced and abused Golden Retrievers. A number of folks in this club began organizing an ad hoc rescue group. As the number of rescues increased over a period of months, this “wet behind the ears” group came up with a name and in 1996, incorporated the organization now known as Golden Retriever Rescue & Adoption of Needy Dogs (GRRAND). The rest, as they say, is history!
