My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We are excited to introduce you to the ever so handsome Blue Jay Bird!

Blue Jay known in his foster home as BJ, is a boston terrier puppy born approximately on 12/17/2023 who is paralyzed in his rear legs since birth.

He is a ham . He is Mr. personality and loves to be around other animals and humans.

He is not incontinent. but has to wear diapers so he doesn't dribble peepee on his legs as he moves due to the pressure on his stomach. But most importantly he wears them to keep his tush safe from friction burns and wounds . He came to us with wounds on his bum, tail, back of his legs and feet. The back of his legs and tush were completely bald due to constant friction. His hair is now growing in as his wounds have healed due to wearing diapers to protect his skin. He needs to be on carpeted surfaces to help his ability to maneuver around in his own way.

He takes baths daily and loves them . he gets his bath a bit before bedtime where he sleeps without a diaper (we call this his naked time). He sleeps great through the night in his x pen where he has a soft bed, toys, a rug underneath, and his water. He does great in a sling where he can be carried around and he will watch the world and enjoys being in the conversation.

He gets the post dinner crazies and wants to play play play. At times he thinks he is in WWE and the star of Monday night raw and it is his responsibility to defeat the Undertaker ‍♂️.

He loves toys and fun things to chew on line bully sticks and bento balls. He has not had all of his puppy shots yet but has been neutered. He travels fine in the car with a bully stick to keep him entertained.

This guy is looking for a family (or person) who works from home, is retired, doesn't have to work, or can take him to work with them. If none of those apply then a babysitter when you will be gone for long hours. He does great in an office setting and stays on his dog bed and rug in the office.

He is being fostered in Sacramento California which is where he will be available to meet potential adopters. If you are interested in meeting and adopting this amazing fella, fill out an application at www.beourpet.org/adoptions.php please be as detailed as possible and let us know why you would be an ideal home for this sweet guy. He requires special attention and care to ensure he is safe, so let us know how you can provide that in your home.

If you are unable to adopt but want to help sweet BJ find the perfect home, please ‼️***SHARE HIS STORY***‼️

Umbrella of Hope does not have any strict rules on ages of children because all children are different, but our best approximation is that this animal would do best with children over the age of 5

Umbrella of Hope is an all-volunteer, donation-run, non-profit animal rescue based out of Pittsburg, CA that rescues animals from local shelters, places them in private foster homes, provides them with needed medical care and then finds them new homes.

Also, ask us about our seniors for seniors program, where we adopt animals 5 years or older to qualified homes with a $5 donation as an adoption fee. All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, treated for parasites and given any additional treatments (dental work, bloodwork etc) as recommended by our vet.

Adoptions to veterans of the US Armed Services are ALWAYS free to thank you for your service.

We thank Well Pet Vet Clinic for providing most of our veterinary services and give a special thanks to volunteer photographers Tanya, Barbara, Kristy, Christine, Teressa and Natalie.

We are on all social media at @umbrellaofhope and we invite you to follow us and share which helps more people see and adopt our pets.

To help our ALL VOLUNTEER team rescue more senior, special needs, medically needy and hospice animals (and a few 'typical' ones along the way, please consider making a tax-deductible (TAX ID 45-4103375) donation online at www.paypal.me/UOH or Venmo @umbrellaof-hoperescue or Zelle beourpet@gmail.com.

More about this rescue

Umbrella of Hope exists to rescue, rehibilitate, and rehome animals from shelter situations with a focus on East Contra Costa County, California. Our goal is to reduce the euthanasia of adoptable animals through increased adoptions of those animals already born. Help increase public safety by reducing the number of strays and feral animals through population control who might carry disease or pose other dangers to the community. Provide resources to pet owners to enable them to be responsible forever guardians of their companion animals. To increase public awareness of homeless pets, encourage spay and neuter of companion animals, and promote adoption for the acquisition of family pets.
