My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

URGENT I AM READY FOR ADOPTION, FOSTER, or TRANSFER!

Hello, my name is Nova, it been a crazy 2024 for me, you see I was raising my puppies on the streets in SW Oklahoma City in the winter, and then I ended up in a trap trying to get food to survive. The humans had my puppies too, I was so scared when we arrived at our new location I was trapped in a room with my puppies and no longer able to escape, so I started defending them from these unknown humans that trapped me. After about a week my babies were moved away from me as they were over 6 weeks and I was in momma defense mode. I ended up back into a cage and off to a trainer’s home. That is where I started the first chapter to my new life. I spent a week terrified to interact with my trainer, mostly shut down, but willing to defend myself. You see after an unknown amount of time on the streets had left me in survivor mode, very flighty and my mommy hormones where all over the place. After some time to decompress the trainer pushed me to accept a leash, and in no time at all I remembered what it was like when I was a pet before. I got to lay on soft beds inside a home, chew up dog toys, and my favorite is to play fetch with a ball. I will sneak on the couch if you’re not looking, and despite street life I don’t like going outside in the cold or wet. I enjoy a car ride but do best with a seatbelt restraint. I share the trainer’s home with serval other dogs and cats. I will need a little time and patients to adjust to a new place and people, but I am bought off by a nice snacks. Soon as I know you are a safe human; we will be besties. (Nova warms up to new people quickly within minutes in an environment she is comfortable in, she is more cautious in new places, with new people and takes her time to greet)

Adoption fee is $75, this dog is about 2-3 yrs old and in the 50 lb range, Nova is spayed and current on vaccines and Heartworm negative.

House Manners: I have been trained with a doggie door into a yard that is a 5ft chain-link fence and I have not had accidents indoors once given a bit of time to acclimate.

Basic Training: I know sit, down, wait, kennel, outside, leave it, and can loose leash walk. I am kennel trained to relax calmly in my crate (36 to 42 inch), soft blankly or bed please. I will need help learning boundaries in a new place.

Other Dogs: I have been around several other dogs and am doing great. It is best for me to have a male dog for a housemate but I do fine meeting girl dogs just wouldn’t want to live with one. I enjoy playing and wrestling with a young husky I am currently staying with.

Cats: I have been around 3 indoor cats, I am often on the other side of a 34-inch pet gate I respect but have hung out with them also, even had to leave it while the kitten stole my treat ☹. The cats where introduced to me slowly and not directly for a couple weeks. I do show a bit of prey drive with excitement of the horses or chickens outdoors.

Kids: No known experience around kids but no signs to have concerns, she has not shown any resource guarding.

Fencing: Has remained in a 5ft chain-link with other dogs and access indoors through doggie door.

This Dog is a courtesy listing for its current caretaker. The dog is not in our care at the rescue or a part of our rescue, but we have been advised it needs a home and we have assisted in the pet being fixed and started on vaccines. Please understand the process may be a little different since the pet is not housed with our agency. The first step is to submit the adoption application and we will be in touch.

This dog has had its Rabies Vaccination and is spayed or neutered. Other vetting may or may not be complete but we require the rabies vaccines (over 4 months old) and to be fixed to post the animal. Any additional medical needed would be at your expense through your vet. We encourage you to take any of our courtesy listed dogs to your vet to be checked for heartworms and other internal parasites and get any missing vaccines they may need. Some courtesy listed dogs may have all this done already and the caretakers will give you records at the time of adoption.
