Jayne.. boy oh boy, this girl is more than just a pretty face, (though she DOES have a VERY pretty face – and the absolute loveliest big brown eyes!) she’s also sweet, sensitive, smart and oh so very, very silly!
Jayne is a girl who comes with some past trauma, but we believe she’s even more special and wonderful not “in spite of” but BECAUSE OF everything she’s overcome. She’s a survivor, she knows what it’s like to be hungry and scared and alone, and now that she knows she’s safe and loved, she shows us daily how relieved and appreciative she is to have this second chance at a new life! Jayne loves her people HARD! They’re the center of her world and she makes sure they know it! The very definition of a Velcro dane, where you go, so goes Jayne! To the bathroom? There she is! In the Kitchen? Sous chef Jayne reporting for duty! Relaxing on the couch? Who needs a weighted blanket when you have Jayne to snuggle up with! Laying in bed? Don’t you worry, she’s happy to be your little spoon! (in fact, she insists upon it!)
Jayne is fully potty trained and has never had a single accident while with her foster family! She’s crate trained and will willingly go into her crate when asked, but with that said, she does have some abandonment issues and doesn’t like being left alone. Her foster family has found that she’s much more content (and quiet!) in her crate when she is in the company of her canine friends! When she is left completely alone, she is NOT destructive AT ALL, but will bark and cry a bit to let you know how much she misses you. Jayne currently sleeps in her crate at night and is also crated when her foster family leaves the house.
Jayne definitely knows what it’s like to go hungry, so now that she has access to regular meals, she eats each one with ENTHUSIASM and should always be fed separately from any other animals in the house. Her foster family currently feeds her all her meals in her crate and using a slow feeder bowl, because like we said, she eats with ENTHUSIASM! She loves treats and despite her enthusiastic meal style, she takes her treats VERY gently!
Jayne likes toys, but LOVES to chew on dog bones, and in her time with her foster family has never once chewed on anything she wasn’t supposed to. She is not destructive, nor is she mischievous, but she can be a bit bossy when she thinks she’s not getting enough attention. Jayne wants to be where her people are, so if you’re in another room and she can’t get to you, she’ll usually plop down in front of the doorway so she can ensure she’s the FIRST to know when you return!
Jayne is very affectionate and loves to show her people how much she loves them! While we wouldn’t label this girl a jumper, she IS a hugger, but usually waits until she’s invited. She knows basic commands, like sit, down, stay, come and shake! She occasionally gives small DANEty smooches, but she’s not an incessant licker, so when she does bless you with a kiss, you know she really means it! Jayne is also very sensitive and “dialed in” to her people. It may be because of her own history of hurt and neglect, or it may just be because she’s such a sweet special girl, but either way, Jayne’s sensitive, devoted nature makes her an extremely loyal companion who is very “in tune” with her people and is always eager to provide comfort and love.
We have not observed Jayne with children under the age of 18 but think that she would likely do best in a low traffic, child-free home. She has past trauma and would do best with an experienced Dane or large dog owner who is familiar with the emotional rehabilitation that rescue dogs sometimes need.
While Jayne does love her people, she can be a bit selective about her canine friends (which is fair, right? I mean, you probably don’t LOVE every human you’ve ever met, either!) and tends to prefer medium to large non-dominant males. With that said, while she’s not really a “girl’s girl”, she can (and currently does) coexist with non-dominant female dogs, in the right pack dynamic, but we would recommend VERY VERY slow intros with all females. Her best friends at her foster home are the younger, more energetic but submissive males, and when we say “best friends” we MEAN IT! She absolutely LOVES the dogs she sees as HER pack and tends to be protective over them, especially from dogs she perceives as NOT being in her pack. Jayne LOOOVES to play, and does have rough play style, so she would do better in a house with larger dogs that can keep up with her physically!
A few other notable highlights about Jayne:
- Jayne is cat friendly with dog saavy cats (again, she has a physical/pushy play style, so would NOT recommend with dog reactive/scared cats)
- Jayne is excellent on leash when walked with a gentle leader
- Jayne has good – but not perfect – recall
- Jayne is an amazing co-pilot/car rider
- Jayne snores like a congested rhinoceros
