Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Howdy from Texas… Today has been a long time coming. Today, I’m available for adoption! My name is Socrates, I’m a male German Shepherd mix, almost 1 year old, weigh 48 lbs, and I have been a street dog in San Antonio since I was a puppy. It was a hard life but that's all I knew so I made the best of it. I was known around the neighborhood as the most gentle dog and I would play with and protect the younger puppies and kittens, but nobody took me in because I had mange, almost no fur, open sores, crusty and bleeding, and I was rail thin from lack of food, I was a wreck. Thank goodness for a hard freeze in January because the dog rescues were out trapping to save dogs from dying in the cold and I was one of the lucky ones. I was sent to a medical foster home and once I was over my initial fear and confusion, I flourished. It was amazing what proper care, medicated baths, some veterinary visits, love, and kindness can do for a dog, but look at me now! I’m beautiful! And I’m ready to find my future somewhere in or near Connecticut, cuz I’m moving there next week.
I am a sweetheart, gentle and kind with other dogs and kitty cats, friendly with people although shy at first. I love to play and I play very appropriately, not aggressively at all, so I make an amazing playmate. I like stuffed animals and tug toys, doggy treats, pets, and cuddles, and when I snuggle beside you I will give little groans of happiness. I’m a good boy and a calm boy, already housebroken and crate trained and even when my crate door is closed but not latched, I never try to push it open. I’m just grateful for my current situation and opportunity to be someone's forever dog, proudly wearing a collar and tag with my name and your phone number, hint hint!
