My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Forget-Me-Nots are small, sometimes missed, flowers that symbolize true love, loyalty, and remembrance. At the Maryland SPCA, we classify a pet as a Forget-Me-Not to highlight an animal that may have some extra considerations for potential adopters to be aware of. Even though this pet may need a little extra TLC in order to fully bloom, we know they are still a strong candidate for adoption and they're sure to bring true love and loyalty into their new family. We hope you'll remember these beautiful creatures when you consider adopting.

Meet Lava Girl, the timid yet tender-hearted feline who's captured the hearts of those patient enough to see beyond her initial fears. From her cautious beginnings to her blossoming into a loving companion, Lava Girl's journey is one of resilience and trust. Born into a world that seemed daunting and loud, Lava Girl's first instinct was to retreat into the safety of solitude. New environments and loud noises stirred a deep-seated anxiety within her, causing her to shy away from unfamiliar faces and sounds. But beneath her apprehensive exterior lay a spirit longing for connection, waiting for the right person to offer a hand of reassurance.

Enter the compassionate souls who recognized Lava Girl's potential for love and companionship. With time, patience, and an abundance of tender care, they gently coaxed her out of her shell, earning her trust one small gesture at a time. Slowly but surely, Lava Girl began to emerge from her cocoon of fear, revealing the sweet and affectionate soul hidden within. In her ideal forever home, Lava Girl seeks tranquility and understanding. A calm, adult-only environment provides the perfect sanctuary for her sensitive nature to thrive. With a steady hand and a gentle touch, her adoptive family helps her navigate the uncertainties of the world, offering support as she continues to gain confidence and courage. Despite her past struggles, Lava Girl's heart is open wide, brimming with love and gratitude for those who've shown her kindness.

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
