Sammy aka Samantha Sometimes communal living has its drawbacks. I have a lovely two-room apartment with all the amenities I need and plenty of attention from the staff and volunteers. However, two young females have recently moved in across the aisle and are annoyingly loud due to "hormonal issues!" I hear their moaning and yowling 24/7, and frankly, it drives me batty. Being a spayed female myself, I understand they can't help it. I checked into the HSHC on April 8. My owners felt that I'd be happier in another home. I think they are correct. They had kids, a dog, and another cat. The dog scared me to death, and the cat and I kept getting into tiffs. The family also moved from a house to an apartment. All of these factors caused me no end of stress. I'm a sensitive soul. When the interviewer lady opened my door, I think my eyes got as big as saucers. But after she spoke quietly to me and let me sniff her fingers, I nudged her with my head and gave her nose kisses. It was so lovely being stroked and petted, and I even began to purr. Of course, when the neighbors started their caterwauling, it disturbed me, and I kept looking over at them. My ideal home would be relatively quiet and predictable-- without a dog. I would be given plenty of time to grow accustomed to any cats. I am a loveable girl with an affectionate (if nervous) nature. Please don't make me listen to those two kitties any longer. 5-9-24

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
