My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Amethyst was rescued by the Humane Law Enforcement Team on on February 22, 2024.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Amethyst, a sweet, sensitive female dog looking for her future home. Despite her initial shyness, Amethyst has a heart full of love to give. Because she can display fearful behavior, her new family must watch a virtual behavior consult prior to adoption. Additionally, any children in the household must be 10+ years old. To help Amethyst transition into her new home and prevent her from feeling overwhelmed, limiting her space will be critical to building her confidence. She'll also need an owner who can teach her how to walk on a leash. With understanding and dedication, Amethyst is sure to blossom into a loyal and cherished companion. Ready to meet her? Come talk to an Adoption Counselor today, and bring a leash and a collar.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
