My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi!! I'm Greta but my foster parents have all sorts of names for me: Gigi, Greta the Great, Girly Girly Gumdrop and so many others. If a dog park had a billboard to advertise it, my face would be on it as the mascot since I absolutely love to play. I'm ready to visit once I have all my vaccines in a few months. When I first came to my foster family I was a little shy but I warmed up quickly to my two foster siblings (who are each 50-60 lbs.) and am not afraid when they both chase after me.

My foster mom says if there is one word to describe me it would be spunky. I am always making my foster mom and dad laugh at my goofiness. I love poking frogs/bugs when I'm adventuring outside and stealing my foster parents shoes for "shoe and tell.

I'm still learning my manners a little bit but I'm super smart and am catch on fast. I've been doing a great job with potty training and will it have it down in no time. A lot of times I even bark or stand by the door when I need to go out. Sometimes I do get distracted outside since there are so many sticks that I absolutely love chewing. I'm not loving my crate but if needed will catch on quickly.

I'm not a huge cuddle bug but I absolutely adore sleeping and hanging out by your side. Even if you leave the room for a few minutes I'll greet you with a huge smile and tail wag. I can't wait to meet my forever family.

Greta is a female Shepard/Collie mix with an estimated date of birth of 2/13/24. She weighs 20lbs as of 5/11/24

More about this rescue

K-9 Angels Rescue is an all-volunteer, all-breed canine rescue organization established in February 2012.

We are a rescue group for shelter dogs who run out of time. In other words, we are not a shelter, have no permanent facilities, and are not equipped to take in dogs from the public. We select dogs from the greater Houston "kill" animal control facilities who would not have made it out alive. (Don't worry! If you need help rehoming a dog, there are other non-profit groups who can assist you.)

No one involved in K-9 Angels receives ANY compensation. Our volunteers are compassionate animal welfare advocates who contribute their time, skills, and finances to shelter homeless dogs in Houston. To save the lives of the abandoned, abused, and stray dogs who end up in Houston's animal control facilities, K-9 Angels relies completely on adoption fees, donations, and our amazing volunteers.

K-9 Angels covers ALL costs for dogs currently in the program. During intake, every dog gets a microchip and is spayed or neutered (if old enough for the procedure). If the dog being adopted is not already altered at the time of their adoption, the dog will be altered within 2 weeks of adoption at our vet at our cost, with the exception of puppies which will be altered as soon as the puppy is ready. We fund all medical care necessary, even if we have to raise extra Helping Paw funds for special cases! From the time they enter the program to the time they graduate, K-9 Angels dogs are kept up-to-date on all vaccines (DHPP, bordetella, rabies) as well as heartworm and flea prevention.

We commit to K-9 Angels dogs until they are adopted.
Our volunteer foster homes patiently provide safety, love, and integration into a household environment - a key to successful adoptions. The biographies, pictures, and even videos from foster homes are important "pup-licilty" for our dogs! We are always in need of additional foster homes.

Our goal is a "fur-ever" home! We take every precaution not to contribute to the dog overpopulation problem here in Houston. Applications are processed according to our adoption policies to insure the best situation for our dogs and the families who adopt them.
