Brownie and his sister, Brookie, came to us from another county shelter. Their breeder had surrendered them in deplorable shape. It took several months for them to trust people again.
The world is a big, scary place. There isn't a mean bone in his body, but it will take some time to show you his true personality. He is sudtly sweet but he has to know he can trust you first. He likes other dogs but is also very awkward in his play. He wants to run and chase the other dogs, but at some point in the session, he seems confused as to whether or not he is playing the game correctly. He accepts new people who approach him slowly and take their time with him. When walking, he wants to be touching his person in a perfect heel. He constantly looks over his shoulder to make sure there is nothing coming from behind. Loud noises are scary to him. Day by day, Brownie builds his confidence. He has spent some time in a foster home where he has been a lovely house guest. He is crate-trained and housebroken. He is looking for a quiet and patient home. He would benefit from another more confident dog in the household. We do believe he could also live with cats.

All household members must meet the pet. If you are adopting a dog, introductions to any animals currently in the home must also to occur.

Submit Application
You may submit an application prior to meeting the pet of choice if you prefer to have your application approved prior to meeting/intros.

Approve Application
The application is thorough process. Household approval and references (vet and personal) checked which sometimes takes up to 7-10 days.

Sign Adoption Contract
sign the contract, pay the adoption fee and take your furever friend home. If there are other pets your new friend will be delivered home

All of our rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, up to to date on their vaccinations and microchipped. The adoption fee is $225 for puppies under a year old, $175 for adult dogs ages 1-7, and $135 for senior dogs 8 and over. The adoption fee for kittens under a year is $100, $75 for adult cats 1-10, and $35 for senior cats 11 and over.

Satchel's Last Resort is a no-kill animal shelter/sanctuary whose mission is to Rescue, Rehab and Rehome dogs and cats with nowhere else to go because of breed, behavior or medical issues.
Each resident that comes to Satchel’s has its own unique and personal history. We get to know each one individually – favorite toy, favorite game, favorite foods. The dogs are housed in an airy shelter with spacious kennels, take three or four romps in the playard or walks per day, and even take car rides to let their fur flap in the wind. Cats are housed in two open cat room settings and receive social interaction with staff and volunteers every day. Most important to us -- we keep our dogs and cats safe from other residents and from humans who may want to harm them.
Trainers work with the dogs a few times a week to teach them that they can trust humans and other animals. Staff and volunteers work with our cats to keep them socialized or help them learn to trust again. We actively seek forever homes tailored to the needs of every individual pet so that they can live the rest of their lives among a family of their own.
At Satchel’s Last Resort, we believe that by harnessing the unconditional love that the dogs and cats in our sanctuary put forth everyday, the world becomes a brighter place for animals and people. Each and everyday we try to give a little of their love back – back to the pets and back to our community.
