My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

A dog for your dog! Her name has changed as much as her life has. Coco came to us just shy of a year. She was 11 months old, very pregnant and underweight. It was very clear that her interactions with humans hadn't been positive until she was rescued. Her foster family are soccer fans and decided to name her Lou and her pups City pups. So now Lou, still very pregnant with a warm clean bed waited about 5 days in her foster home to have 10 puppies! She delivered 10 healthy puppies and let her new humans help her and start gaining her trust. Lou was such a great mom. She was attentive and made sure her pups were healthy and so happy. Because she was the best mama, "Mama is the name that stuck the most and is her nickname in her foster home. So now Mama, after giving birth to 10 beautiful babies, watching them all go to loving homes is ready to find her forever home.

Mama Lou has worked so hard to learn how to be a dog. She is great about stretching the limits of her comfort zone to meet new people and learn new things.
Lou's foster family consists of 2 human parents, 2 adult children, her 12 year old boy, a crawling tiny human that visits often, 2 other dogs, a bearded dragon and a fish. She loves her four legged foster siblings. She is great with all sizes of dogs once she learns her boundaries and place in the pack. She seems to gravitate towards being the more submissive pack member. She loves playing with the other dogs in the home and has really relied on them to show her the ropes of dogging. They love to play chase and roughhouse. She likes to tease her playmates with their favorite toy to get them riled up. As much as she loves roughhousing, she lives to snuggle with her pack when it's time to relax. She's good at reading the room when it's time to settle.
Lou is a medium energy dog who loves to run and play in her fenced backyard, does great walking on a leash by herself or on a double lead with another dog sibling. She is fairly non-reactive on walks when strangers or dogs are nearby. As much as she loves to run and play, Mama Lou is in her happy place at bedtime. She loves snuggling with her humans and other dogs. She loves sleeping in bed and being a couch potato on the weekends. She is learning "sit and "back.

Lou is not a huge barker on her own but she is a copy cat so if other dogs are barking she will too. She is very polite with visitors. When there is just too much excitement in the house, she will politely excuse herself and go hang out in her kennel.
Lou is not a fan of loud bangs, swinging bats or any large, long swinging object for that matter.

She likes chewing on bones, loves snacks, she is housebroken and currently has a pretty lenient potty schedule. She is in a kennel during the day for about 5 hours with an occasional lunch break mid-day to stretch her legs.

Lou would do best in a home with another dog. She would love a dog to run and play with. Lou would prefer a furever home with patient pawrents that are willing to take it slow with getting to know each other. She currently loves a 12 year old boy but isn't a fan of him swinging bats! She would prefer humans that are old enough to know dog manners and are gentle and loving. She tolerates the tiny crawling human that visits often but doesn't go out of her way to be too playful with that size human.

This beautiful girl is now almost 2 years old and ready for her forever home. If you and your dog are interested in finding out more about her, please apply at: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/ITMD/Dog

Additional adoption info

We want to make this easy and we want to be sure that the dog you are interested in is a fit for you. Finding a dog or pup that works with your schedule and lifestyle is key to our placement. The questions on the application help us know if the dog you choose will do well in your home. Number of hours your dog is home alone, fenced yard, exercise plan, other family members – pets included; those are important things we want to discuss with you and your chosen canine.  We do require a vet reference.

The application is on our website: Istodaymydayrescue.org. Complete and send. You can expect a reply within 24-48 hours.  As all of our dogs are in foster care, we will then contact the foster home and arrange a meeting.  The foster home might want to do a home visit or you might meet at a convenient location. If it is a good fit, some adoptions can be completed at that time of the meeting.

If your pup is under 4 pounds or an extra large breed at the age we typically alter our dogs, she or he might need to wait to be altered until the pup reaches a more appropriate age. This is to ensure that the pup is large enough to undergo anesthesia and old enough to not stunt the puppy's growth. If so, we will ask you to sign a spay/neuter contract. We will refer you to a low cost spay neuter program in your area. Sixty dollars will be reimbursed when the procedure is completed.

All of our dogs are micro chipped, wormed, heartworm tested if over 6 months, on heartworm preventative, treated for fleas, and have age appropriate vaccines. Pups under 16 weeks require ongoing vaccines every 2 to 3 weeks.

More about this rescue

“Is today my day?” That is what every shelter dog asks. “Is today the day that I find a home, get a family, discover that I am a best friend”? We want to tell those dogs: “Yes, it is!”

We are a foster based rescue who aims to serve south central Missouri, an area with a low human population and a high canine population. Our mission is to help dogs from this area find homes in the St. Louis area through adoptions and transfers. After covering spay/neuter costs, 20% of each adoption fee goes to our emergency medical fund so we can help canine accident victims, pay for emergency C-sections, and other health needs. The remainder of the adoption fee goes to the dogs.

We are foster based and do not have a facility. Moms and pups are our focus, but we will help any dog we can. We are only able to accept a dog when a foster home is available. All dogs and pups are current on vaccines, micro-chipped, heartworm tested, wormed, and treated for fleas and ticks. All dogs over 12 weeks have been altered; if too young for this procedure, a spay/neuter reimbursement is provided when the procedure is done.
