My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Look at this gorgeous boy! His name is Oz, and he is every bit as magical as the wonderful land of Oz from which he was named. Oz is a 1-year-old purebred red merle Aussie with stunning blue eyes. He is on the bigger side, weighing 56 pounds with a stocky bone structure, and the typical Aussie energy, but is very nicely behaved when you ask him to settle down in the house. Oz is the typical Velcro Aussie who only wants to be where you are and will follow you everywhere. But he’s not clingy, and will hang out in the office or even kitchen with you and not bother you, calmly lying in the floor and happy to just be with you. Oz loves other dogs who are willing to play, and respects the space of those who don’t want to play. He also likes to play fetch with a ball, and will chase it as long as you are willing to throw it. He’s housetrained and crate trained, sleeps in his crate at night and patiently waits to go outside in the morning. He knows some obedience commands and will gladly do whatever you want for a treat (treats are the BEST!).

Oz had a hard first year of life. He had an owner who fell on hard times and had to move in with family, who would not accept Oz into the home. So for a while, Oz lived in a crate in a vacant home, only getting out twice a day when the owner came to feed and let him out while looking for a home for him. The second family who took him in only had him a couple of months before finding his exuberance to be too much for their three young children, all under the age of 6, so again, Oz was rehomed. Oz is sweet as sugar, but does get bouncy when excited, and can easily knock a small child over unintentionally. We suspect that Oz was bred from working lines, given his energy and endurance, so although he’s very nice, he is a lot of dog. He needs an active family and would make a great running buddy, because running is his very favorite thing! He is a very good boy, and his few No’s would be: no cats, no children under the age of 5, and no small dogs, although this is on a case-by-case basis. Oz is friendly and loves people and would be thrilled to have some older kids in his life to play with him. Oz is current on vaccinations, flea and heartworm preventatives, and is microchipped. We have delayed neutering based on current recommendations for dogs his size in order to allow him optimum bone development, but he will be neutered prior to adoption. Please watch his video to see how sweet and smart he is, and his energy level when outside. You’ll fall in love! He is available for a $300 adoption fee, and an adoption application is required and can be found here. https://www.twistedbranchaussies.com/adoptions-surrenders.html

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Please keep in mind that we are not a shelter where you can visit dogs and go home with one that day. We are a home and family first, and a rescue secondly, and in order to maintain a family environment for the dogs, we are only able to offer visits after we have an approved adoption application from you. We put a great deal of effort into every dog that we rescue, sometimes driving several hours to rescue them and then spending a huge amount of time caring for them physically, training them, socializing them with other dogs, and teaching them house manners. We bring these dogs into our home, into our family, and in some cases, into our bed to sleep with us. They are our family, and we care deeply about every dog that comes into our rescue. For this reason, we are very particular about where our dogs go. We do not adopt on a first-come, first-serve basis, but instead adopt to the family who is the best match for that particular dog.

Adoption Requirements and Procedure:

*We must have a reviewed, approved Adoption Application from you before scheduling a visit with the dogs.
*You must have a securely fenced yard for your adopted dog. We do not adopt dogs to homes where they would be allowed to roam free on acreage. This is for the safety of the dog.
*Due to health concerns for young puppies, puppies under the age of 4 months can’t be adopted to apartment homes where they would be exposed to other dogs. Puppies underage for spay/neuter are only available for local adoption.
*You must be able to travel here to meet and adopt your new dog. We do not ship dogs, and we want the opportunity to meet you in person before trusting you with one of our babies.
*You must be patient with us! Once we receive your application, we will need time to review it, check references, and conduct a home visit to ensure that you can provide a safe environment for your new dog. The whole process could take as much as two weeks. Please keep this in mind when you apply, as you will not be able to apply and adopt the same day.

More about this rescue

With few exceptions, we do not use foster homes. Most of the dogs in our rescue live here in the home with us as members of our family, and they sleep and eat indoors and have free run of the yard during the day. We feel that this is the best way for us to prepare these dogs for adoption and life with their new families, to teach them house manners and basic obedience training, and to get to fully know them so that we can make a proper placement.
